Principal's Report

Our beautiful trees throughout our school yard provide us with shade, coolness and a calming and unique environment. As winter progresses leaves continue to fall and it always seems a never ending task to clean them up. Our gardener does attend to this task but if you take a look up you will see that many of our trees have a way to go before they lose all of their leaves for the season. Every year, our magnificent Japanese Maple tree in the centre of the upper yard loves to scatter its leaves across the asphalt. When it is wet these leaves can be slippery. Students and parents/carers are reminded to take care when walking ( and students playing) in this area. Students in particular are constantly reminded to slow down in this area and take care. A big thank you to Joelene for spending a morning last week raking the leaves and popping them into our compost bins. Of course the next windy day and we have another cover of leaves but looking like we are nearing the end. We always appreciate any time you may have to call in and do any cleaning up around the yard as it really does help! Thanks Joelene for your care and help.

Road Safety reminders

We all want our students to arrive and leave school safely each day. If this means a couple of extra minutes for your child to walk into school because you may need to park in an appropriate space and use the crossing then this is worth the time and effort to keep everyone safe.

There are clearly marked no parking zones at the front of the school in the service road (High Street). These are not drop off zones. The grass embankment along the service road is a popular parking spot however adults and children are walking across the service road from cars often in front of or behind buses and are often unaware of reversing cars. Please demonstrate good road safety expectations and rules with your children. If you are parking on the embankment on the service road, please take the extra few minutes to walk down to the crossing. Staff on duty at the crossing enjoy seeing families each morning and afternoon and the crossing is a great place to have a quick check in as students arrive and leave each day.

We will be having some visits from Steve Davis (Senior Constable - Lancefield Police) who will be catching up with all classes. One of the topics he will be discussing is road safety and how to keep safe travelling to and from school.

Uniform and Winter weather

Reminders about school uniform and LPS uniform expectations. Please ensure your child/ren are in school uniform each day. Branded jumpers and pants and other colours apart from school colours etc are not school uniform. Shoulder length and longer hair is must be tied up for health and safety reasons .

If you are having any issues with purchasing uniform items you might need, please come and see Sharon in the office, we can help! Don't forget the second hand uniform available from the office which has been laundered and labelled for your convenience. All we require is a gold coin donation.

The weather really is getting colder and wetter this winter. Please ensure your chil/ren are dresssed appropriately for school with school jumpers and including a warm jacket and beanie for outdoor play.

Semester One Reports and P/T/S Mid-Year Conferences

Bookings for your mid-year P/T/S conferences (FRIDAY 26th of JUNE - Pupil Free Day) are now open on Compass.

We will be providing student achievement reports for Semester 1 this year as usual. The reports will be available on Compass Wednesday 24th of June.

Your child's semester one report will provide important details about student learning attainment and social development, but full descriptive comments will not be included as a result of industrial action taken earlier this term by the Australian Education Union. Teachers will be pleased to discuss your child’s progress in detail with you at the parent/teacher/student conferences.

We encourage students to attend their conference along with parents and carers so they can share their achievements of semester one and discuss their goals for semester two.

PLEASE NOTE - 1/2N Conferences will be held on Friday 24th July due to Naomi currently on leave.

Upcoming end of term events:

Beans and Beanies Day is on this Friday 19th of June. Students who wish to participate need to bring along their own small (non-breakable) bowl and spoon for a delicious serve of hot baked beans and fresh bread at lunch time. All students can wear their favourite beanie to school. Bring along a gold coin donation to support the Student Council fundraising efforts for Back Packs for Vic Kids

Trivia Night: This Friday (19th June) the Lancefield PS School Council are excited to invite you to attend the LPS and Lancefield Hotel TRIVIA NIGHT! Purchase your tickets now for a great local night out while supporting our school!
