Kilvington Writer's Festival

Spotlight on Year 7 poet Emily Xu

Each year, the School hosts the Kilvington Writer’s Festival.

We are pleased to congratulate Year 7 student Emily Xu, whose poems were shortlisted as finalists in the Junior section.

Poem 1 - Embers (haiku)

A small spark, nothing

Burning brighter, charring woods

Can you see me now?

Poem 2 — Pond(cinquain)

calm     hushed

soothing lulling deceiving

but what lurks beneath these murky waters?

Sinkhole

Poem 3 — Risk-taker (free verse)

Forever, the tides rush us towards the sea

To have a vast navy quilt

Thrown over us.

Our rolling waves, Proud azure — Restricted;

A blanket crease.

Yet she, that silently observes

In the midst of our tumbling wake shakes her head in dismay.

The gulf,

The peril,

She sees it all.

Yet she, that silently observes

In the midst of our crashing wake arise, a tsunami amongst billions of ripples.
