From the Principal
Dear St Augustine’s College Community,
It is with immense sorrow that we reflect on the tragic events earlier this month, which claimed the lives of Ben Smith, his brother and past St Augustine’s student, Luke, and their cousin Dusty. The news has deeply touched our community, leaving us heartbroken yet united in our grief and support for the Smith family.
Ben and Luke were extraordinary young men who made a lasting impact on everyone who knew them. Ben was known for his confidence, warm smile, genuine kindness and his yoyo cookies. Luke, though no longer a student at St Augustine’s, remained a cherished member of the St Augustine’s community.
As we gather as a community, we hold AJ, Leonie, Ryan, and Olivia—their parents and siblings—tightly in our thoughts and prayers. We pray for strength and comfort as they navigate this unimaginable loss. The St Augustine’s family stands beside them, ready to support in any way we can.
The funeral service for Luke and Ben will take place next Wednesday, 4th December, at the Tongala Football/Netball Club at 11:00am.
In times like these, our faith reminds us that God walks with us in our sorrow and brings comfort to the brokenhearted. Let us continue to support one another and honour Ben, Luke and Dusty by living with kindness, courage and love.
To accommodate, the following arrangements have been made for next Wednesday:
- Foundation to Year 6 classes:
Classes will run as normal. - Year 7 to Year 11 classes:
Regular classes will not run on this day. However, supervision will be provided for students in these year levels who are unable to remain at home. - The canteen will not be open for any students.
Yours sincerely
Jay Sutton
