Principal's Page

Dear Families,

Last week we had two highlights of our school calendar with Italian Day and the Visual Arts Exhibition. Both events highlighted our dynamic, engaged learning community here at St Joseph's. Thank you families for your support and contributions.

Community Events

We have been asked to share many community events with you. Please check out the Community News page of the newsletter to know more about some local events coming up.

St Joseph's Award

Congratulations to Bryce Willcock and Amélie Baker on receiving the St Joseph's Award at assembly last week. The award acknowledges two students who consistently uphold our school behaviour expectations of being respectful, safe and learners.

Italian Day

The school was a buzz on Tuesday with colourful costumes inspired by the Italian culture. Students were engaged in the activities: pasta making, the Tarantella dance, the game of bocce and soccer. Grazie mille to Signora Scandizzo for organising the day and to the many parents and grandparents who assisted on the day.

Visual Arts Exhibition

What a wonderful afternoon evening we had!

We are extremely fortunate to have such a wonderful Arts program at St Joseph's. Thank you to all that attended the afternoon, parents that assisted with setting up, families that painted skate decks and the generous families who purchased them. Approximately $1370 was raised for the MOSS Foundation. Thank you to the auctioneer extraordinaire of the evening Tim Bradler and our Visual Arts teacher Jane Byrne who shares her passion and creativity with us.

Boomerang Bag Day

There are many Boomerang Bags created by the ladies from the Sorrento Community Centre to be sold. They will be on sale this Friday 22nd November before school. They will be $3 or $5 in price.

Oak's Day

Thank you  Sophie and her team for organising the Oak's Day event. The sun was shining and a lot of fun was had. We are extremely grateful for the money raised (final figure to come). The money raised will be used to purchase new sporting uniforms for inter-school sport days.

Transition  Sessions

Over the next three Thursday afternoons, beginning tomorrow, all students will be participating in a Whole School Transition Program. Students will move to their learning spaces for 2025 and complete a variety activities. The aim of the transition program is to ensure all students feel supported and comfortable as they approach the new school year. Families can support the transition by acknowledging all emotions and encouraging a growth mindset. Students will find out the teachers in the learning space on Monday 16th December.

School Advisory AGM

On Wednesday, 27 November, you are all invited to attend our School Advisory Council Annual General Meeting at 5:00pm. We will present the Chairperson's report and Principal's reports. We will be thanking Adriana Rios, who has served on the Advisory Council for many years and is presently the Chairperson. Adriana has worked tirelessly for St Joseph's School during her time here as a parent and we are extremely grateful for all she has contributed and achieved. If you are interested in finding out more about the SAC and would be interested in joining for 2025, then please send in an expression of interest to me at moshannassy@sjsorrento.catholic.edu.au

It has been a pleasure to watch the students confidence increase and swimming skills improve this week at the Prep - Year 4 Intensive Swimming Program. We are so fortunate to share the swimming pool with Sorrento Primary School. Thank you to jacqui Hayes and the parent volunteers, Annabel, Bill, Leigh, Jacki and Leonie for instructing the students and Jenny Todd for organising the program.
