Year 6 Newsletter

Year 6 Weekly Newsletter: Week 5 and 6

Dear Parents and Guardians of Year 6 Students,

We are now past the halfway mark of their last ever term at ENPS for our Year 6s!

Mathematics:

In maths, students have wrapped up their Splash World project. They let their creativity and flare for design shine through the creation of a water park. During this project they worked to a financial budget, used conversions of measurement, found the volume of objects (the rides) and discovered the final capacity of the pool once all rides were placed. This was a fun and engaging way to put our skills into real life situations.

This week we had some more design and creative fun in the form of tessellations. It was wonderful to see their imaginative pieces come to life with bright colours and wonderful patterns.

Writing:

In our writing lessons, students have been working on creating fictional biographies of their future selves. This creative exercise allows them to explore their aspirations, dreams, and goals, and put those thoughts into captivating narratives. We have been impressed by their creativity and storytelling skills! The students will be designing portraits in Art to put with their finished biographies when they are complete.

Inquiry: Can I afford to buy that?

In our inquiry-based learning activities, students have been channelling their entrepreneurial spirit. They've been collaborating with a partner to plan their own class business venture for the upcoming "Earn and Learn" markets, which are scheduled to begin in Week 8 on Friday. This hands-on project will give them the opportunity to apply their problem-solving, decision-making, and teamwork skills. It promises to be a fantastic learning experience.

Reading:

-The students have continued to read and explore their chosen books in Lit circles. We have loved listening to their discussions and reading their weekly summaries.

-As a class we are continuing to read Warhorse and discussing related themes about WW1, animals experiences at war and the impacts of these events have had worldwide.
