Alice@Wonderland Drama Club Production
Mrs Herbert | Head of The Arts
The Secondary Drama Club recently wowed an enthusiastic audience of friends, family, students, and staff with a fantastic performance of Alice@Wonderland. This modern twist on a beloved classic came alive with vibrant costumes and creative backdrops, showcasing the talents of our young performers. It was a true delight to watch these students grow in confidence, many of them stepping into lead roles or performing on stage for the very first time. Their dedication, hard work, and enthusiasm have been truly inspiring, and we couldn't be prouder. A heartfelt thank you to our teachers and staff who volunteered their time and expertise to make this production possible, ensuring every detail shone. Congratulations to all involved!
Year 10 Mentor Training Day
Mr Asphar | Head of Year 10
In Week 3 of Term 4, the future Year 11 Peer Mentors of 2025 completed their Peer Mentor Training at the Rockingham Foreshore. The 19 students completed activities focused on the following:
- Leadership training
- Team building
- Their role in Orientation Day
There were two main sessions down at the Foreshore. One session involved the students completing a wide variety of teamwork-based group activities with Mr Edward. The other session involved students developing their communication and social skills by interacting with local business owners, in an activity with Mr Asphar.
At lunchtime, the students returned to the College, where they completed their third activity, which involved all working together to make lunch, led by Mrs East. Lastly, they all worked on creating icebreakers and interactive games that they could potentially coordinate at the upcoming Year 7 2025 Orientation Day.
Thank you to Mrs Au for coordinating the day, and a big shout out to Julie Graham from Westmoore Gifts for taking time out of her day to help with the communication and social skills activity.
Year 8 Murdoch University Excursion
Mr Hayter and Ms Naidoo | Mathematics and Science Teachers
On 17 November, 34 bright and eager Year 8 Catalyst Mathematics and Science students embarked on an adventure to Murdoch University. Their task was to explore what the University could offer them if they were to go down a Science, Technology, Engineering or Mathematics (STEM) pathway. The first hurdle they had to overcome was a lockbox challenge. They required students to work in groups to solve mathematics puzzles and be the first to unlock a series of padlocks to reveal a prize. Students were then given an opportunity to tour either the engineering or creative arts areas of the campus. Our students marvelled at the recording studio in the arts side and the pilot lab in the engineering that would allow university students to gain hands-on experience before entering the workplace.
After a quick tour, students learnt the lingo of university and discovered the difference between undergraduate and postgraduate study, majors and minors, and lectures and tutorials. Next up, students were challenged to build a Rube Goldberg machine that would deliver a marble into a cup. This required students to carefully backward map and use trial and error to develop the simple machine.
Finally, students reached the highlight of their day! The food court! Lunch was shared, and stories were told about what they would do when they enrolled at Murdoch, before they were ushered off to the final activity for the day. The last activity saw students experience robotics and simple coding. Each student was given a robotic sphere and iPad to control it before playing a large game of tag with their robots. The final activity challenged students to develop a simple block-chain code to get their robotic sphere to complete a series of challenges. Overall, the students had a fantastic experience and many were asking how they could enrol already!
Year 9 Camp
Mr Hubbard | Head of Year 9
Our Year 9 students embarked on an exciting journey at Dare Adventures in Dwellingup this year. Throughout their time there, students showed remarkable maturity, respect, and enthusiasm, pushing their boundaries in various challenging activities that tested both physical and mental limits. Camp was a unique opportunity to forge new friendships and strengthen existing ones, creating lasting memories and building a stronger community. In addition to the fun and adventure, students took time to reflect on their faith, gaining a deeper love for Christ and a fresh appreciation for the beauty of His creation. Well done to all our Year 9s for making this camp such a success!
Year 10 River Cruise
Mr Asphar | Head of Year 10
The Year 10 River Cruise on 25 October, was a night to remember! The students – feeling both nervous and excited – met at the College for the drive up. Once we arrived at the Barrack St Jetty, the students took the opportunity to take some photos before boarding on the fabulous-looking Crystal Swan Cruise Boat. By this stage, the excitement had well and truly taken over the nervousness, and the students took some time to enjoy the sunset onboard as we cruised away from Elizabeth Quay.
The DJ had well and truly set the tone early in the night, and the students were on the dancefloor, enthusiastically showing off their dance moves. The music even got rave reviews early in the night from the staff in attendance, so much so that both Mr Asphar and Mr 't Hart wondered if the DJ could continue at this high standard, which he well and truly did. Throughout the night, the kids were treated to some fantastic food and spent quality time together, both on and off the dancefloor.
Before we knew it, it was time to return to the College and call it a night. The Year 10s are to be commended for their behaviour and how they represented The King's College. It has truly been a pleasure to be your Head of Year this year!
Lastly, on behalf of the Year 10s, a big shout out to the following staff for helping on the night - Mr Damien 't Hart, Miss Simone Naidoo, Mrs Stephani Lorenzen, Mrs Karin Au, Miss Clair Nolan, Mrs Alyssa Kidd, Mrs Mary Ann Koshy.
Year 9 English/HASS Catalyst Excursion
The visit to Curtin University was a fantastic opportunity for our students to engage with high-level concepts in English and HASS through interactive sessions tailored to their Year 9 curriculum. Students participated in workshops, group discussions, and hands-on activities that challenged their critical thinking, creativity, and collaboration skills, which were in alignment with our Catalyst Extension program's goals.
RKAS Touch Rugby Carnival
Mr Hubbard | Coach
Our students represented the school at a fantastic Touch Rugby Carnival hosted by The King's College. The day was hot but beautiful, and our team showed incredible skill, determination, and sportsmanship. Over the course of the day, we secured several massive wins, going four games without conceding a single try. While we faced two tough losses to Kolbe and Court Grammar, our team's performance was strong enough to finish 3rd overall out of seven competing schools.
Teachers from other schools were impressed, with one commenting, "The King's College must be a touch rugby school!" Our students' commitment and growth on the field made for a truly memorable day. A big thank you to Mr Caizley and Mrs Taylor for their support and organisation, and congratulations to the team on an outstanding carnival!
