Grade 5 & 6

Term 4 week 6

A time for reflection

On Monday, the 11th of November, we remembered the brave soldiers who have fought and lost their lives throughout the course of war. An important chapter in our nation's history, our pastoral team prepared bible verses, poems and sincere words to reflect this. As a whole school community, we sang the national anthem and offered a minute silence. We remembered them.

War Horse, our current focus text for Literacy, encapsulates the hard ships of war and especially for the animals. This text has assisted students in understanding the great sacrifices many made for our current freedom.

In Flanders fields the poppies blow

Between the crosses, row on row,

That mark our place; and in the sky

The larks, still bravely singing, fly

Scarce heard amid the guns below.

We are the Dead. Short days ago

We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,

Loved and were loved, and now we lie,

In Flanders fields.

Take up our quarrel with the foe:

To you from failing hands we throw

The torch; be yours to hold it high.

If ye break faith with us who die

We shall not sleep, though poppies grow

 In Flanders fields.
