St Bernard’s Day

This morning we had a mass for the feast of St. Bernard, who is the patron Saint of our church and our school.

Our Church of St. Bernard’s was named after St. Bernard of Clairvaux by Father Mc Gee in 1941.

St. Bernard was born in France on the 20th August, in the year 1090, in his father’s castle.

At school he was a good student and he enjoyed literature and poetry.  He was devoted to God and he learned about Him by reading the Word of God from the Bible.

At the age of 22 he became a monk. He liked to pray and, during his adult life, he spent much of his time writing books for the Church about the love of God. St. Bernard also spoke about Scripture, spiritual life and about our Holy Mother Mary. He was also a teacher.

St. Bernard lived during a time when people were very poor.  Even when he did not have enough to eat himself, he shared what little food he had with the poor and sick people of his community.  That is why we have our school motto, Love Serves.

Eucharist

Please also keep the Year 3 and 4 students who are preparing to receive their first communion in your prayers.  Many of the students participated in the family faith night on Wednesday 13th August, showing and sharing their commitment to their faith.

The students will receive the sacrament of Eucharist for the first time on Sunday 31st August.
