TOURNAMENT OF THE MINDS
This year we were fortunate to have another talented and committed group of students ready to take on the challenge of competing in our regions Tournament of the Minds.
These students have worked hard over the past 5 weeks, using lots of their playtimes, to work together in preparing a creative solution to the problems they were given.
We were very proud of their enthusiasm, teamwork and drive to continue working hard even when under pressure.
All this though, wouldn't have been possible without the continued support of our staff who also spent many hours of their own break times supporting these students. We are so grateful to Mrs Angove, Mrs Kerlin and Miss Spence for their continued support in providing this additional learning opportunity for our students.
Congratulations all!

OUR DAY AT ToM
Our day at ToM was really fun. We had to arrive at LaTrobe University to discuss the challenge and present the judges with the necessary paperwork. Then we gathered at the door of the room where we would take part in our spontaneous challenge.
The spontaneous challenge, unlike the long-term challenge, was a simple challenge all ToM teams were given on the day and had a few minutes to make a solution and present it to the judges. Although we aren’t allowed to share what the challenge was until further notice, we were judged on our creative thinking and teamwork. We had close to no preparation, but we all worked together and did it.
We had our long-term challenge, a challenge we had already spent weeks preparing for. Our long-term challenge was about building and designing a recreational facility for the community, and our play was full of humour along with the necessary information. At first, we wanted to design it in Bendigo, but we thought as if a made-up town would better cater for our needs. We had many different scripts, and it was quite conflicting, but we landed on one that captured all aspects and quirks of our ideas.
Overall, we had a blast. It was really fun to show the judges what we had been working on for the past few weeks even with our few mistakes. It was very humorous, and we absolutely loved it.
Sincerely, the TOM team (Jimmy, Tahlia, Jasper, Olive, Sahara, Will and Josh)
ToM RECOUNT
August the 16th, was the day everyone competed in the Tournament of Minds and presented their solution at La Trobe, to the problem given to the team. Our team, Language and Literature, arrived at 10:50am at La Trobe and at 11:20am we displayed our performance “Caterpillar” that we had prepared for. Our challenge was to bring a book written by Shaun Tan to life, with even more colour and shape than before. In our case, we chose to bring the book called “Cicada”, a popular picture book, to life because it gives us all an important lesson; to be fair, equal and considerate of everyone, no matter their identity. The people in our group that all assisted each other in completing the Language and Literature challenge go by the names Ruby, Payton, Ashton, Lilah, Sibylla, Maddy and Lee. We all had a very fun day at ToM and we all wish to do it again next year!
