Principal's Views

What a busy and wonderful fortnight it’s been at EVPS! Our students have been engaged in so many exciting learning opportunities and celebrations, and it’s been fantastic to see our school values shining through in all they do.

We enjoyed the cosiness of the JSC PJ Day – there’s something special about learning in your PJ’s, oodies and dressing gowns while raising funds to support the Year 6 Graduation.

Our Year 6 students are making us incredibly proud during their visits to the local nursing home. Displaying our school values, of caring, being respectful and responsible and showing genuine kindness in their conversations with residents, truly taking our school values beyond the classroom and into the community.

This week we recognised Bullying No Way Week. Bullying No Way Week is a commitment being made by thousands of schools and supporters across the country. It provides an opportunity to demonstrate our commitment to bullying prevention.

The theme for this year's campaign is Be Bold. Be Kind. Speak Up.

It takes a community to be brave and address bullying behaviours, within and beyond the school gate. This Bullying No Way Week, we’re asking you to be bold and say something, be kind and support someone and be proud to speak up against bullying.

Continuing  after this week  and running through to the end of term, EVPS will deliver a targeted wellbeing program focused on bullying prevention, bystander behaviour, help-seeking, and peer check ins. This aligns with national campaigns such as Bullying No Way Week and R U OK? Day.

Highlights include:

● Week 4: Whole school participation in Bullying No Way Week, including a simultaneous anti bullying lesson on August 11 at 1:00pm.

● Week 5: Focus on positive upstander behaviour under the theme “Stand Up, Speak Up.”

● Week 6: Promoting help seeking strategies and identifying trusted adults.

● Week 7: Encouraging peer check ins and strengthening friendships.

● Week 8: Participation in R U OK? Day (September 12) with classroom based activities and events running during break times

● Week 9: Celebration and reflection on learning through creative class projects and student pledges.

This initiative aims to empower students to speak up, support one another, and contribute to a safe an inclusive school environment.

And the excitement isn’t over yet – next week is Book Week!

On Monday 18th August, we’ll kick things off with our Book Week Dress Up Parade. We can’t wait to see students and staff dressed as their favourite book characters as we celebrate the joy and magic of reading together.

Next week is Staff Wellbeing Week - a valued tradition at EVPS and held mid term, a chance for staff to connect & recharge. There will be a dress theme - students are invited to join staff on Friday and wear crazy / colourful socks!

ARE YOU MOVING ON IN 2026?

We are now well and truly in the planning phase for 2026 and as such it is important that we have an accurate indication of our student numbers for next year.  If you are planning on relocating at the end of the year or leaving us for any other reasons, please let us know as soon as possible so that we can best support the transition of your child to another school setting. Use this link to let us know if you are moving schools in 2026.

2026 INTENTIONS

Prep Enrolments for 2026

2026 Prep enrolment applications closed recently.  All schools follow the statewide enrolment timeline. All eligible families have been provided with the final paperwork.  We will now begin planning classes for 2026 and with the current numbers we will have 3 Prep classes.  If you are yet to put in your application or know anyone that hasn’t, please do this immediately so that our planning is accurate. Information about Prep transition sessions will be shared soon.

Buildings and Grounds - Sensory garden and surrounds

Throughout the sensory garden there are several new plants which has revamped this Inviting play space. New seating has been installed near the junior classrooms and there have been upgrades to the drainage in and around the oval.

Roadworks and Dunolly St gate re-opening

A reminder about the roadworks and closure of the Lyndarum Road intersection on Epping Road – please allow extra travel time and plan ahead to avoid delays. The re-opening of the gate on Dunolly St (near OSHC) has hopefully helped to ease some of the traffic flow pressures.

In the interest of safety at the school gates and school crossings students are to remain inside the gate until their parents arrive to pick them up.

We are one of 7 local schools that are participating in the Shop to the Top competition (refer to the flyer in this newsletter).  We have a chance to win a share of $16,000 for educational improvements. A Box will be placed in the Admin Foyer for students, parents and staff to drop in their receipts (remember to write the school’s name on the back of the receipt).

Finally, a reminder that Mandy will continue to be on leave for the remainder of Term 3. Thank you for your understanding and ongoing support.

Acting Principal
