Year 4 News

Who We Are
Our Year 4 students have been busy researching their chosen body systems and sharing their learning with the class. Using digital tools like PowerPoint and Canva, they created engaging presentations to show what they’ve discovered so far.
Next, students will work in small groups to investigate a ‘big question’ about the human body. Some of the questions they are curious about include:
How does temperature affect the body?
What role does sleep play?
How does stress affect the body?
Students have already brainstormed their wonderings and are now collaborating to research answers to these fascinating questions. We can’t wait to see where their curiosity takes them!
Student Led Conferences
A big congratulations to all the students who led their conferences with their parents and carers last week. Like true professionals, you confidently shared your learning, using examples and clear explanations to show what we have been working on in class. Well done on taking ownership of your learning!
Save The Date
This learning will continue to build towards our big end-of-term Showcase on Wednesday 10 September, where students will present their research and insights to our school community. Parents are invited to join us from 9:15 am to 10:00 am for the Showcase, where they can explore and celebrate all the wonderful work the students have been doing. We can’t wait to see the creative and informative ways they share their understanding of the human body.
Parent Visits
Sharing Expertise in Health We were thrilled to welcome more parent experts into Year 4 recently! Marta joined us to share her knowledge as an optometrist, and the students were fascinated, asking lots of thoughtful questions. Tamy also visited and taught us about the nervous system and her work as a Play Therapist. The students learnt how to keep their brains happy and enjoyed a fun mindfulness activity.
These hands-on experiences have not only sparked curiosity but also deepened our understanding of our Who We Are Unit of Inquiry, as we explore the body’s systems and how to keep them healthy.
A big thank you to Belinda and Melissa, who will be visiting soon to share their expertise in the health field—we know the students can’t wait!

VR Incursion
Year 4 students had an amazing time during their Virtual Reality experience, exploring the human body from the inside! This interactive and immersive incursion was a fantastic way to deepen and consolidate their understanding of the body’s systems.
Mad About Science Incursion
Year 4 students had an exciting time during the Mad About Science incursion, which supported their current learning in Science. The session explored fascinating topics such as forces, gravity, electricity, and more!
Science truly got “mad” as students watched amazing experiments that demonstrated key scientific concepts in action. It was an hour filled with fun, discovery, and plenty of excitement!
Mathematics
Year 4 students are continuing to explore how fractions and decimals connect to percentages. Through hands-on activities and real-life examples, they are discovering how these concepts work together and why they matter in everyday life.
Students will also begin learning how to interpret data and graphs. They’ll work with different sets of information to create their own graphs and practise reading and interpreting data accurately.
Pen Licences
During recent Year 4 assemblies, many students have proudly received their pen licences. This achievement reflects their dedication to developing neat, fluent, and consistent handwriting. All Year 4 students are working hard towards this milestone, and we look forward to celebrating more pen licence recipients in the coming weeks.
