Year 3 News

Making Maths Real
In Year 3, we’ve been exploring real-life maths by looking closely at the world around us.
Students have been spotting and identifying angles in everyday places and diving into financial maths, learning about the many ways we use money in our daily lives. These lessons help students see how maths connects to their own experiences and the world around them. Students have been building their skills in recognising notes and coins, adding amounts, and working out change.
To support this learning at home, you might encourage your child to practise using money in real situations - for example, working out the total cost of a few items at the shops or calculating how much change they should receive.
Resilience, Rights and Respectful Relationships (RRRR)
In our RRRR sessions last week, Year 3 focused on coping with stress and difficult emotions. Students discussed the different feelings we all experience - such as sadness, anger, worry, loneliness, or fear - and explored a variety of self-calming strategies they can use in these moments.
We spoke about how important it is to have a 'toolkit' of strategies, so that when challenges arise, they can choose the one that best suits the situation. From deep breathing and positive self-talk to taking a break or doing something active, students are learning that having options helps them feel more in control and confident when facing tricky emotions.
A Visit from Harold!
Last week we had a very special visitor - Harold the giraffe! As part of the Life Education program, Harold helped us explore The Inside Story, a fun and interactive session all about looking after our bodies and making healthy choices.
Students discovered how our body systems work on the inside, and learned clever strategies for staying safe and confident, even when faced with tricky situations or peer pressure. As always, Harold made the lesson extra engaging, and the students loved learning important wellbeing messages in such a fun and memorable way.
Book Week Parade
Last week, Year 3 joined in the excitement of Book Week by dressing up in their favourite costumes. The students looked absolutely fantastic, and everyone had a wonderful time showing off their outfits in the whole-school parade.
Year 3 strutted, danced, and beamed with pride, celebrating their love of stories and imagination in style!
