Year 1 News

Life Education

The Year 1 Students enjoyed participating in the Life Education Interactive Program called Harold’s Friendships. 

They enjoyed building a model spaceship for Harold and his friends Boots and Red so that they could venture into an imaginary world in outer space. As the adventure unfolded the students explored, how to build friendships and care for others, feelings and emotions, safe and unsafe situations, early warning signs and people they could turn to for help. 

 

The program goals focused on; 

-Building Awareness 

-Encouraging Reflection 

-Sharing Knowledge 

-Developing Strategies and Skills   

 

 Science Incursion 

The Year 1 students enjoyed a jam-packed 60-minute show of big WOW science madness!  There were giant smoke vortices, levitating beach balls, flying toilet paper, flour fireballs, hair-raising electricity, and lots of learning! 

 

Book Week 

 

Book week was enjoyed by all. The year 1 students all looked fabulous in their costumes and enjoyed reading many of the shortlisted children’s books throughout the week.  

 Unit Of Inquiry 

Transdisciplinary Theme: ‘How We Express Ourselves’. 

 

Central Idea: People Express Themselves Through Stories. 

This term the Year 1 Students are inquiring into the ways in which we discover and express our ideas. They have begun with reading many Fairy Tales and have acted them out whilst exploring the different perspectives of each character.
