Principals Report

Thank you to all families who attended our recent Parent Teacher Evening. The night was a great success, with many valuable conversations taking place between parents, students, and teachers. If you were unable to attend, we encourage you to reach out to your child’s teachers to stay connected and engaged with their learning progress.
As the weather begins to warm up, it is the right time for families and students to be looking at the summer uniform and making sure students are wearing the correct attire each day. Wearing the school uniform is important because it promotes a sense of belonging, unity, and pride in our school community. It also helps set the tone for learning by ensuring students are ready and focused for the day ahead. In addition, uniform prepares students for life beyond school, where in many workplaces a uniform or dress code is required. By wearing their uniform with pride each day, students are developing positive habits that will serve them well in their future careers.
We understand that for some families, uniform can be a challenge, and we encourage you to reach out if you require assistance—we are here to help. Staff have also recognised how important this is, and we are currently developing a whole-school plan to strengthen our approach to uniform so that every student feels included and supported.
We have also noticed that some students are arriving at school without the correct equipment or resources to fully engage in their lessons. Being prepared with the right materials each day is an essential part of learning. While we will provide support for families who may be experiencing financial hardship, it is important that students take responsibility for being organised and bringing their equipment to every lesson. We are working on strategies across the school to support students in this area, and we greatly value families having these important conversations at home.
Next Monday, we will hold our School Captain speeches for 2026. We are very fortunate to have an outstanding group of future leaders putting themselves forward for this important role. We encourage all students to listen carefully to each speech and reflect on the type of leader they want representing Glen Innes High School when they vote. I wish every candidate the very best in this process.
Finally, we are excited to see a positive lift in student attendance across the school. It is fantastic to see students arriving at school with focus and determination. Attendance matters—being in class every time, all the time, is key to success in learning and building strong futures.
Thank you to all our families for the ongoing support you provide in helping your children to be in full uniform, to arrive prepared for every lesson, and to attend school every day. Together, we are building a strong and successful learning culture at Glen Innes High School.
