Celebrating Book Week
To celebrate Book Week, students read and responded to the 2025 Shortlisted Picture Books of the Year, 'A Leaf Called Greaf' and 'We Live in a Bus' and the 2025 Early Childhood Shortlisted book, 'How to Move a Zoo'. Students explored concepts such as onomatopoeia and action art- the use of sound words to enhance storytelling and art. Inspired by the moving story of a bear who holds onto a leaf when experiencing loss, students created similes and art to express their own ideas of loss. They also shared funny ideas of how they would transport a zoo animal to a zoo, for example, an elephant in a hot air balloon, a monkey in a race car or even a whale in a big truck with a fish tank. Take a look at some of our artistic work.

Making Math Fun: Arrays and Groups!
In Maths, students have been diving into the world of multiplication by learning how to make arrays and equal groups. This is a fun and visual way to begin understanding how multiplication works.
Using materials like counters, blocks and coloured plastic tiles, students practised making groups of equal amounts, for example, 2 groups of 4 blocks. These hands-on activities helped students visualise multiplication and connect it to real-life examples.
Students also created 'Arrays'where they arranged coloured tiles into equal rows and columns.
Ask your child to show you a multiplication array at home using toys, snacks, or even silverware- learning really is everywhere!
Soaring into Seasons with Kite Making!
This season, our students are learning through the wind-literally! As part of our exploration into 'Change and Transformation', students madebright, colourful kites to welcome the change in weather. They explored how the wind works, talked about different types of weather in each season and used creativity to decorate their own kites with shapes and favourite colours. Students had the help of some special people when partaking in this kite making activity and tested their creation outside.
Not only was this a fun way to celebrate the seasons, but it also gave students a hands-on way to connect with nature and enjoy time outdoors. Students evaluated the function of their kites and thought about ways they could improve their kite making skills.
Be sure to look up; Grade 1/2 kites are flying high with creativity and seasonal spirit!
A big thank you to all our families who came along to participate in the open classroom and perhaps take a wander down the memory lane of seasonal past-times. It was an incredible turn out and a great way to make the most of the windy weather.
