Setting yourself up for success:
Having transitioned into the senior school, year 10 is an excellent opportunity to develop the skills, habits and attitudes that set students up for success in the VCE and Vocational Major at year 11 and 12. Below are some strategies that you can consider implementing at home:
Weekly schedules/Wall planners: Balancing schoolwork, sports commitments, part-time work and everything else can be a challenge. Wall planners can help students visualize time for better management, it supports them in achieving balance, effective revision and homework routines, as well as promoting independence and accountability. Having transparency around the work ahead can also encourage helpful home discussion on school related topics and timely reminders.
Establishing dedicated study space: Where possible, separating a study space from leisurely chill space can help minimize the distractions that are ever-present at home. Where this proves difficult, it can be worth considering alternate spaces such as Ballarat Libraries for study outside of school hours.
Praising and celebrating progress and completed tasks: Learning and developing organizational skills can come with some challenges, so it’s also important to celebrate growth and find ways to acknowledge the learning progress made to help students build confidence and develop a growth mindset.
Student Of the Week:
Our first Student of the Week was awarded to Charlie Harris – his teachers acknowledged his excellent demonstration of the school values across a range of contexts.
