Grade 5/6

Classroom
Recently the grade 5 and 6 students have been focusing on their Oral Reading Fluency, with daily timed tasks which are aimed at improving their total words read. The students have been reading passages that incorporate our History topic about Australian federation, government and democracy.
Our writing focus at the moment is persuasive texts and the students have been very convincing when explaining their points of view.
In mathematics over the past few weeks we have been learning about fractions. We have practised adding and subtracting fractions with the same denominators and those with different denominators. The students have also worked on converting fractions into decimals.
After this unit the grade 5/6 students can now explain that each fraction has a numerator, denominator and a vinculum. They can also determine the difference between proper and improper fractions.
