English

In English, our text focus has been on the picture story book 'We're Going On A Bear Hunt'. We have learnt about the characters and events by making a story map with finger puppets to retell the story and learnt new vocabulary to go with each stage of the book. We have discussed the following words and their meanings:

-the grass: long, wavy, lush, wispy, emerald, jade, luscious

-the wet clothes: saturated, soggy, water-logged, drenched, soaked

-the yucky mud: disgusting, oozy, rancid, filthy, squelchy

-the forest sounds: rustling, screeching, cracking, creaking, whistling

-the bear: shiny, wet nose, furry, brown ears, big googly eyes

We have focused on a variety of sentence types:

An action sentence: They skipped through the long, lush grass.

Touch/Feeling sentence: Their clothes were drenched

Thinking sentence: The family thought the mud was really squelchy.

Sound sentence: As they entered the forest they heard birds squawking.

Dialogue sentence: They walked on and came to a cave. "I'm terrified' cried the children.

Descriptive sentence: One wet, shiny nose, two big googly eyes...

We LOVED getting wet and muddy in the 'pretend' river and mud and walking through the nearby 'forest'. It was lots of fun experiencing the book.
