Learning News
As we settle into our classrooms and get back into the swing of school, it’s been great to see students quickly adapting to their routines and embracing the start of a new year. This week, students have been revisiting our school rules and what they look like in the classroom.

What an incredible start to the school year for our Kindergarten students! This week, they have spent time building friendships with their peers, becoming familiar with school routines, and connecting with older students, including their wonderful Year 5/6 buddies, who have provided great support and guidance.
This week’s learning focus has centered on exploring the letter ‘S’, discovering various 2D shapes, and engaging in activities designed to develop and strengthen fine motor skills. These foundational experiences have been both enjoyable and enriching for our young learners.
Well done, Kindergarten, on a fantastic first week filled with curiosity, hard work and fun!

Year 1
Hello, my name is Miss Lyall, and I’m so excited to be your new Year 1 teacher! This week has been a wonderful start to the year as we’ve settled into our new classroom. We’ve been setting up our routines, getting to know each other, and making sure our classroom feels like a special place to learn. It’s been lovely meeting all of the students, and I’m looking forward to all the fun and learning we’ll have together in Year 1 this year!

Year 2
This week, our Year 2 class has been busy settling into the new school year and setting up our classroom! To welcome everyone, the students created beautiful welcome posters for the entryway using leaves found around the playground. They also worked with Mrs. Herden to add meaningful Aboriginal symbols to their posters, including the symbol for "meeting place." These posters now greet us every day as we walk into our classroom, reminding us of the creativity and teamwork that makes our class special!

Year 3
Hello and welcome to 2025. My name is Mrs Davis and I am new to the St Michael’s school community. I have come from Westdale Public School in Tamworth and am very excited to have a lovely Year 3 class this year! The Year 3’s have made me feel very welcome and have settled in well. We have all promised to look after each other this year and are lucky enough to have Ms Williams, Mrs Mitchell, Mrs Herden and Mrs Paull helping us with our learning.
The highlight of the week was attempting to solve our STEM challenges. We helped save Fred the gummy worm and tried our best to fit our heads through a piece of paper without breaking it.
Looking forward to a fantastic year!

Year 4
Welcome back to the 2025 school year! I would like to first congratulate the Year 4 students on the way that they have commenced the year. They have settled in and have been working hard. We are so lucky to have Miss Miller, Mrs Mitchell and Miss Cronin also working in our classroom at various times throughout the week.
The students' favourite activity from their first week was designing/drawing their own selfie phone screensaver.
Can’t wait to see where this year of learning takes us.

Stage 3
Welcome back! Stage 3 are already working hard on their learning, focusing this week on reading group activities, and in particular, factual read and retell. The students have been brushing up on their summarising skills and realising the importance of using dot points and sub-headings to help organise information that can be read at a quick glance.
Starting with a sample of a factual text, Stage 3 read the text aloud and located any technical or special topic words and highlighted them yellow. Then they added subheadings to help organise the information before writing a dot point summary. The summary then became a quick reference for orally retelling the factual information to a friend. We have seen lots of progress over the week and our retells have dramatically improved. Well done Stage 3!
