Year 6

6S students have been working hard to improve their mental maths fluency, particularly in multiplication and exploring ways to transfer their skills to solve larger multiplication problems.   

We have been focusing on times tables strategies and automatic recall to strengthen fluency. 6S have been actively reflecting on their own areas for improvement and engaging in targeted games and activities to build confidence. One of the highlights for the class was the 'Tables On The Table' game, where they got to draw on the tables to work on their multiplication skills. Students thought Mrs Savory had gone crazy when she asked everyone to draw on the tables! 

Once students had sharpened their multiplication fluency, we moved into multiplication number talks of larger numbers, where students shared their mathematical thinking and discussed effective strategies and how these can be applied to solve multiplication of larger numbers. We will continue to develop these skills throughout the year.
