Congratulations to our Year 12 students, Charles Galvin and Kai Buza, who ran the Carman's Fun Run 2024 on Sunday. As well as achieving excellent run times, the funds raised go to Breast Cancer research, a cause close to Charles. The boys raised $1600 in donations and are very grateful for the generosity!

Digital Technologies - Bentleigh East Campus

We have a great six months ahead in the world of Digital Technologies! Our students in

in Years 7 and 8 will experience a semester in the subject, while our Year 9 students will   have it as an elective study.

Digital Technologies gives students diverse learnings around topics including robotics, website construction, programming, game design, 3D CAD, data visualisation, digital citizenship, cyber safety, cyber security, the web economy, AI and future careers in Information Technology.

Whilst keeping up to date with the latest capabilities of software applications is always a focus, there are plenty of evergreen elements that run through all our activities: collaboration, problem solving, creativity, task management, social impacts and sustainability.

A new challenge we'll be exploring this year across all classes is the question of when and how students should engage with AI tools such as ChatGPT. The art of the well-composed “prompt” is becoming an essential skill for students. Some educational writers are observing that an overreliance on AI can negatively affect the development of a student’s technical competence and understanding, creativity, critical thinking and intellectual stamina. We will journey through both the potential and the concerns that AI brings.

Fighting for Felix

Felix Burgess (Class of 2023) has been battling Ewing’s Sarcoma – a very rare form of cancer – since 2022. The cancer has now returned, this time to Felix's lungs and possible treatment options are in the United States.

Fighting for Felix is a GoFundMe page raising funds for Felix's treatment overseas.

We know the strength and care of our Beda Community can make a big impact to Felix and his family.

Since reaching out to our St Bede’s College Community and Old Collegians for support, more than $38,000 has been raised - an incredible achievement with the potential to transform Felix's life. Thank you to everyone who has shown their support.

Sunday 3 March - Mentone Campus

12.30pm to 2.30pm

As we move towards becoming a litter-free-lunch school, it's inspiring to see so many students using lunch boxes and reusable containers, rather than contributing to landfill.

Gloves and bags will be provided.
