Making Bubbles - A Shared Prep Experience

On Monday I was lucky enough to join the Prep students and teachers for a language experience - making bubbles! The Preps got together in the outside kitchen (on the Alfred Crescent side of the school) to take part in this shared experience. We mixed detergent with water and each student made their own bubble wand out of pipe cleaners. The students then had a go at blowing bubbles! A few students even helped me create a giant bubble wand and then experiment to see if it would make giant bubbles (with mixed results!). This activity provided a launching pad for further exploration in class, with students writing and drawing about their shared experience.

I spoke with Archie and Alex from Molly’s class about the activity:

Alex ‘We made bubbles. I made just one bubble - and then I popped it! We used soap and water and blew into the pipe cleaners.’

Archie ‘So I got some pipe cleaners. Then I made some bubbles. Only tiny bubbles came out. I also caught a bubble - it fell down - and then I caught it again! Then it popped! It was fun. (In class) Molly wrote about the bubbles. Then we drew a picture of what we did outside.’

District Swimming Competition

On Thursday 31 students from our school walked to the Fitzroy Pool to represent Fitzroy North Primary at the Northcote District Swimming competition. All the feedback I received from parents and teachers was that our students did an outstanding job both in and out of the pool - actively demonstrating our values of respect, kindness and resilience. Well done to everyone who participated and congratulations to the 15 students who have gone through to represent the school at the division competition.

Thanks as always to Ben for his behind the scenes organisation of these events. A shout out also to the parents and carers who went along to help out on the day.

Volunteering at FNPS: Confidentiality Information Session Next Friday

Speaking of parent and carers volunteering to help out at school and school events, a reminder that any adults who provide volunteer support need to have:

  • Shared a current Working with Children’s check with office staff
  • Completed the 2024 volunteer agreement (https://forms.gle/9omgjzMW8BH5QXHKA); this needs to be done annually, and
  •  Participated in confidentiality training (any time since mid 2022 when the Child Safe Standards were last updated).

If you think you might like to volunteer this year (for example, helping out with the swimming programs, supporting reading with the early years students or going along on an excursion), and haven’t completed the Confidentiality Training, I will be running a session next Friday at 9am in the multipurpose room. If you would like to join, please register your interest here: https://forms.gle/dwF1g3S8tm9czemL7

Please note that I ran this training as part of the Prep information session in late 2023, so any parents or carers who attended this do not need to participate in another session.

Parent/Carer Helpers Needed to Support Restocking the Library

Michael, our librarian, has been working hard in recent weeks to transform the library back from classrooms into a space that our students can use to immerse themselves in books and reading.

We are planning to have the library set-up and accessible to the classes in the coming weeks. In order to prepare the library space, we would love for some families to help out after school on Tuesday 5th March from 3.30pm to 4.30pm. Tasks would include moving books from the shipping container to the library, sorting through books and helping organise some of the shelving. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

If you’re available at that time and able to help out, please register your interest here: https://forms.gle/XUK8arG3JgYsHRzW8

I hope everyone has a wonderful weekend.
