Around Our School
ORANGE SKY AUSTRALIA
On Thursday 15 February, LEAD, SLC, and Interact all banded together and raised money for Orange Sky Australia (OSA) OSA provides a regular laundry and shower service to Australians who are in need, the focus is on creating a safe and supportive environment for people who are often ignored within the community.
We are the first pilot school that OSA has provided laundry options for students who need them or who want to learn important life skills.
It was a very successful day, with many students helping with everything and raising $929.30 after expenses. We had a lot of fun working together, selling sausages, drinks, and Zooper Doopers. At the LEAD sausage sizzle, we sold 700 sausages and 400+ drinks, having to go out and buy more after we ran out. The SLC sold many Zooper Doopers too! Interact had a jellybean jar guessing competition, getting a lot of students and staff guessing. Overall, it was an excellent day and we all had lots of fun!

THE PETA MURPHY MEMORIAL GARDEN (PMMG)
Frankston High School has designated a space for a Peta Murphy Memorial Garden.
Sadly, Peta passed away late last year. Anyone who knew her was aware that she was an excellent politician; one that truly worked for the benefit of her community. But more than that, she was a great friend to Frankston High School. The relationship that formed was not due to any political affiliations, but a genuine care in what students could gain from her support. Often politicians, from all spectrums, are invited to speak to students about a variety of issues depending on need. Peta could always be counted on and went the extra mile.
The garden is currently in the design phase, with an emphasis being placed on plants that are aligned with Peta's favourites and what would be most beneficial to future proofing the garden in terms of soil health and providing shaded space for warmer days.
Of course with any project like this many hands make light work. If you or someone you know might be interested in lending a hand, or if you know of a business or organisation willing to donate garden supplies, equipment, or financial support please email bmckinnon@fhs.vic.edu.au listing how you might be able to help.
Any help, big or small, would be appreciated!

FRANKSTON COUNCIL CLIMATE CO-DESIGN
For those that might not know the Frankston High School Eco Team is a group of dedicated students, from all year levels, working together to learn about and take action on environmental issues. This can take the form of lobbying the school for change, through to working with and helping educate members of the Frankston community.
The Eco Team has a few projects on the go at the moment, however one of their more prominent ones is a Climate Co-Design where they are working with students from EMC and Frankston Council to help come up with a way to engage younger Frankston citizens in understanding climate risks and helping them adapt to climate changes. The process has so far included presentations from various members of Frankston Council, and a founding member of Project Planet. There has also been an effort to collaborate on a possible social media video to help educate and appeal to younger members of the Frankston community.
he Eco Team has more meetings coming up and are excited to be helping create a more robust approach to the future impacts of a changing climate in the Frankston region. The Eco Team members involved would like to thank the organisers of the Climate Co-Design for providing a warm and welcoming atmosphere, delicious food, and an opportunity to affect real change. The Eco Team meets most Wednesdays at lunchtime in the STEM building. New members are always welcome, but must have a keen interest in the environment and working for the greater good. Students often find lasting friendships, given the like mindedness of members and the numerous activities they undertake together.
