LITERACY SUPPORT

During the first four weeks of Term 1, selected students in Years 7-10 have been removed from class for a short literacy test to help determine their suitability to be a part of our literacy support program at Frankston High School.

This year, we will be offering Corrective Reading, a Tier 2 literacy intervention program designed to promote reading accuracy. The program shows strong alignment with the five core components of literacy (phonemic awareness, phonics, comprehension, vocabulary, and fluency) and uses evidence-based instructional methods. Corrective Reading is used in many schools in Australia and has been implemented at Frankston High School in the past. We will also be providing in-class support for students who are not part of the Corrective Reading program but who require extra assistance.

Parents/carers of students who will benefit from Corrective Reading will be contacted, and further information about the program will be provided.

We are very excited to welcome students into our program and know they will benefit from the small group environment.

ACADEMIC CATCH-UP CLUB (ACC)

Academic Catch-up Club (ACC) is open to all students in Year 7-10 seeking academic support.  It is aimed at helping students to achieve their full potential and is designed to aid students who need further assistance with their Common Assessment Tasks (CATs) or other essential coursework. Students may voluntarily choose to attend ACC or may be ‘assigned’ to attend through their classroom teacher.

Every Tuesday, 3.30-4.30pm in the JRC.
