From the Principal

Dear Parents/Carers, Students And Friends

Attendance

We have been continuing to monitor student attendance and are focussing on improving this across the whole school. I want to reiterate the importance of young people being at school each day. To miss periods of schooling limits continuity of learning and student wellbeing, making it challenging for our young people to catch-up in class, participating in events at school, and social connections. We appreciate and acknowledge your continued support and partnership in your child’s journey with us.

Official Opening

What an amazing day at Frankston High School! On Monday 12 February, we officially opened our new buildings on the Centenary of the first opening of our wonderful school, 12 February 1924. We unveiled our new House banners designed by local Bunurong artist Adam in conjunction with our student leaders. Thank you to past and present students, staff, parents, and school leaders who joined us in celebration.

Year 7 Camps

It was fantastic for our students (and staff!) to be able to attend our two Year 7 Camps this week. I really enjoyed my time at each of the camps seeing our students working together as a team, challenging and supporting one another. Thank you to all staff who attended to get to know our students better and ensure they have a successful transition to Frankston High School. Feedback from students and staff has been very positive. Thank you to Mr Joel McMahon, Ms Phoebe Macreadie, Ms Catherine Kyriakos, Mrs Sharee Dew and Mr John Simon for their efforts organising these camps.

SLC Camp

Our SLC Camp ran from Wednesday 28 February to Friday 1 March last week in Phillip Island. It was a great opportunity for our student leaders to form strong bonds and develop their ideas further supported by those staff attending. We have a great team of student leaders who are keen to continue to improve our wonderful school. Thank you to Mrs Sarah Bahramis for her efforts making this camp so great and to all staff who attended.

School Production

As announced on 5 February, we are very excited that our School Production this year is 'Grease' and it is with great pleasure that we announce the cast list of our 2024 production!

Alumni Program

Why are we developing our Alumni Program?

Frankston High School has a proud record of educating young people. Our school’s alumni community is huge, full of interesting people doing interesting things. Alumni can be inspirational, relatable role models for current students. They can provide career guidance for students, work experience placements or establish scholarships and other types of philanthropic support for students. Universities and private schools are skilled at building their alumni communities, but there hasn’t been a tradition in state schools of harnessing the potential of their alumni communities.  Ourschool is a not-for profit service helping public high schools build a thriving alumni network to help current students and the school community.

Our Alumni Program Coordinator, Ms Rhiannon Slattery, is working here on Mondays and Tuesdays to find and reconnect with alumni. Once we’ve established a contact list of alumni and their expertise, she will work with teachers to invite alumni back to school to enrich the school’s classroom subject, offer career pathways enrichment and drive work experience opportunities.
