Year 6 Camp - Merricks

It has been an amazing couple of weeks at Beaumaris Primary School, with everyone in the swing of things! As we move around the classrooms, we are delighted to see our students fully engaged in their learning. Last week, Grace had a fantastic experience attending the Year 6 Camp at Peninsula Outdoors. We received wonderful feedback from the staff, who always look forward to hosting Beaumaris Primary School because our students showcase incredible manners, a positive attitude, and resilience. We were incredibly proud of them.

Just a reminder that we will be hosting an open afternoon tomorrow from 2.40pm - 3.15pm. Our open afternoon focus is maths games. We invite you to join us and participate in maths games with your child in their classroom. You will see in our Term Calendar that open afternoons will be a regular thing at Beaumaris Primary this year, so if you can't make this one there will be others! We look forward to having you join us if you can make it and we hope you enjoy spending time with your child in their classroom.

Student Leadership

On Tuesday we had our Investiture Assembly. This assembly marked the presentation of leadership badges to student leaders, as well as highlighting the Year 6 cohort as leaders of the school.  We welcomed back Paige and Tex who were the School Captains in 2018 when the current Year 6 cohort were in Prep. Please see their speeches below.

We were also very lucky to hear from our 2024 School Captains. Please see their speeches below.

Congratulations to our Year 5 and 6 students who received a leadership badge at the Investiture Assembly on Tuesday. Please see the full list of our 2024 school leaders below.

NAPLAN

The National Assessment Program – Literacy and Numeracy (NAPLAN) is a literacy and numeracy assessment that students in Years 3, 5, 7 and 9 sit each year. NAPLAN assesses literacy and numeracy skills that students are learning through their regular school curriculum. Students sit assessments in writing, reading, conventions of language (spelling, grammar and punctuation) and numeracy.

The NAPLAN test window is 9 days. This is to accommodate schools that may not have the capacity to complete the tests in a shorter time frame. The NAPLAN test window starts on Wednesday 13 March 2024 and finishes on Monday 25 March 2024. Schools will schedule the tests as soon as possible within the testing window, prioritising the first week. Our schedule will be as followed:

AssessmentDate
WritingWednesday 13th March
ReadingMonday 18th March
Conventions of LanguageTuesday 19th March
NumeracyWednesday 20th March
Catch-Up TestsMonday 18th - Friday 22nd March

Please find more information below.

We draw your attention to the following information regarding exemptions. If you wish to apply for an exemption please email the school by Wednesday the 6th March.

"In exceptional circumstances, a student with a disability that severely limits their capacity to participate in the assessment, or a student who has recently arrived in Australia and has a non-English speaking background, may be granted a formal exemption. Your school principal and your local test administration authority can give you more information on adjustments for students with disability or the process required to gain a formal exemption."

Japanese Day

On Wednesday March the 6th we will celebrate Japanese Day. This year, we are very fortunate to have SHIN from Japan perform, who will showcase taiko drums, shinuobe flute and electric piano. They are here to perform at Moomba Festival and for Beaumaris Primary! Please see here for a preview https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=dxlLVGDFyqg

We also have Toshi from Wadaiko Rindo performing for the morning assembly. Students are invited to dress up on Japanese Day. They may like to take inspiration from traditional Japanese costume, the colours of the Japanese flag (red/white), Pokémon or Japanese characters, etc. Please note; please ensure no chopstick accessories, ninja swords, masks or head coverings are included in costumes. We look forward to coming together to celebrate this day.

Thank you for attending Parent Teacher Interviews this week. We trust that you found the opportunity to meet and discuss your child with their 2024 teacher valuable.

Enjoy the rest of your week.

Kind Regards,

David, Grace and Ellen
