Primary School Handbook

The Primary School Handbook provides families with detailed information about The Friends' School, the School structure and locations, learning principles and frameworks, co-curricular program, outside school hours care, and day-to-day matters and activities. Assembly

The next  Primary School Assembly will take place on Monday 19 February in The Farrall Centre and will commence at 2.15pm. We welcome families to attend.

Whole School BBQ

Wednesday 21 February

All students and families from Early Learning to Year 12 are warmly invited to the Whole School BBQ on Wednesday 21 February to celebrate the start of the new school year and offer an opportunity to meet our new Principal Esther Hill.

We will be welcoming The Rotary Club of Lindisfarne to light up the BBQs for a sausage sizzle, both gluten free and vegan options will be available. Two of our students, Amelia Cooper (Year 10) and Rupert Bullard (Year12) will be performing and we will have giant lawn games to play.

Outside School Hours Care - Bookings 

Bookings for the Outside School Hours Care program (both before and after school) on either a permanent or casual basis, must be made through Friends’ Early Learning Reception (contact by phone on 6210 2276 or email: feladmin@friends.tas.edu.au). 

Catch-up Photo Day

For those students who were unable to attend the photo days this week, a catch-up photo day is scheduled for next week, Tuesday 13 February, 9.30-11.30am, in the lower foyer of The Farrall Centre. Students are required to wear full formal school uniform.

Primary School Chess Club

Our Primary School Chess Club is held on Wednesdays after school for students in Years 3 - 6. It is run by an external organisation, Black Square Chess, and each session includes a lesson and games. If your child would like to join, please email Sharon Ryan.

Meet the Teacher - 13, 15, 20 and 22 February

Parents are invited to attend a “Meet the Teacher” session during February with Primary School classroom teachers. These sessions are designed to give you an overview of the learning program and classroom organisation for the year. Please note that child care will not be provided. All sessions will be held in classrooms at 5.00pm on the following dates:

 

Tuesday 13 February - Year 5/Year 6

Thursday 15 February - Year 3/Year 4

Tuesday 20 February - Kinder/Prep

Thursday 22 February - Year 1/Year 2

Primary School Music Ensembles

All Primary School music groups will commence rehearsals next week, with the exception of Year 5 Band which will have instrumental demonstrations and selection before rehearsals commence.  Available groups include choirs, concert bands, string and marimba ensembles.  Please see this link for ensemble details along with rehearsal times and locations.  For most music ensembles, students simply need to turn up to the first rehearsal to sign up. Mini Swim Carnivals - Years 3 - 6

Wednesday 14 - Friday 16 February 

Mini Swim Carnivals will be held at Friends’ Health & Fitness pool during PE sessions on the following dates:

 

Wednesday 14 February

YEAR 6: 12.00-1.45pm

 

Thursday 15 February

YEAR 3: 9.00am -10.30am

 

YEAR 4 : 12.00pm - 1.30pm

 

Friday 16 February

YEAR 5: 9.00am - 10.30am

 

Students will be walked to and from school by class teachers and will be required to bring bathers, cap, towel and goggles (if required). All students are required to attend. 

 

The JSSATIS selection carnival will run on the following dates/times for children who have swum in 50 events in the mini carnivals and wish to be considered:

Year 5/6: Wednesday 21 February (9.15am-12.15pm)

Year 3/4: Thursday 22 February (9.15am-12.15pm)

Year 5 - Collaborative Day at the Domain

Friday 23 February

On Friday 23 February, all Year 5 students will be participating in a collaborative learning day at Legacy Park Community Hub Playground on the Queen’s Domain. The aim of the day is to develop collaborative learning skills through a range of activities in accordance with our focus approach to learning during our How we organise ourselves inquiry. Activities will be run in cross class groupings to also develop our Year 5 learning community; an opportunity to get to know all students and teachers across the year level. 

 

Students will be walking to and from school, departing at  10.00am and returning to school by 3.10pm. They should bring a packed lunch, morning and afternoon tea, a drink bottle and hat. NO CANTEEN ORDERS ON THIS DAY. Sunscreen will be provided throughout the day and the students are invited to wear their P.E. uniform for this excursion.

Absentees

If your child will be absent from school for the day please advise the Primary School Office (phone: 6210 2228, or email: primaryschooloffice@friends.tas.edu.au ) and the classroom teacher before 9.00am. We appreciate your support in this process.
