Dear Families
Welcome to a new school year and an especially warm welcome to all of our new families.
Next week we celebrate the beginning of the season of Lent in the Catholic Church.
Lent is a special time of prayer, fasting and giving to others that lasts for 40 days, leading up to Easter Sunday.
During Lent, we reflect on the life of Jesus Christ, his sacrifices, and his teachings of love and compassion.
SHROVE TUESDAY - 13th February
We will be celebrating Shrove Tuesday as a school community with pancakes and prayer from 2:30-4:00pm.
Pancakes became associated with Shrove Tuesday because they were a way for people to use up rich foods like eggs, milk, and sugar before the fasting period of Lent began.
These ingredients were commonly restricted during Lent, so making pancakes was a practical way to ensure they were not wasted.
ASH WEDNESDAY - 14th February
Lent officially begins next Wednesday 14 February when we celebrate Ash Wednesday.
To mark this special occasion in the Catholic Church we will be attending the 9:15am Parish Mass as a whole school. You are more than welcome to join us.
On Ash Wednesday, you might notice some of your friends or family members with a cross of ashes on their foreheads. This tradition reminds us of our lenten journey towards Easter, when Jesus died for us.
Wishing you a blessed Lenten season filled with growth, reflection, and joy.
