Inclusive Of All

These days, there are many catch phrases people say, but quite quickly, they could easily be accused of hypocrisy. As a school, we have changed our motto to Inclusive Of All. Therefore, we must live by that statement.

This week, we welcomed a number of students, many students with different backgrounds. This is obvious. What is less obvious, are the skills they bring, the stories they bring, the laughs they bring…the joy they bring. Each of us brings our challenges too, and that is where the community thrives most.

A few years ago, I learned the power of generous assumptions. When someone cuts us off in traffic, we can immediately turn to anger, but what if we thought that person might be late to a job interview? What if they have just had some bad news about a family member and are rushing to be by their side? When we think this way, we let go of anger and have compassion, we are curious?

We can teach our students that. What if that kid who walked off was having a bad day? What if they missed breakfast this morning? What if they were kept up all night by their baby sister?

Some people would call these excuses, and we all need to be accountable for our actions, however, we all don’t need to be judged every minute of every day.

So when we see a child flap their arms, let us just see a child happy. When we see a child scream out, recognise they may be upset. The question as a Catholic School we must ask, What would Jesus do?

Through the Gospels, we have many examples of Jesus reaching out to the outsiders, the sinners, the poor. However, some within the Global Church face a challenge, often being very judgemental.

Luckily, our Parish is full of people like Jesus. Our school has people like Jesus. We strive to create a Holy Family way of being Inclusive Of All.

Coming Up

Pancake and Prayer: Next Tuesday: Come and have a free pancake and meet your child’s teacher. We would love to see you from 2.30pm to take part in classroom activities and stay awhile to chat. We will be here until 4pm. If you can come earlier (1.45pm) then pop down to the school BBQ and help Glenis cook the pancakes before joining in the activities.

Open Day: If you know of any families with children starting school next year, encourage them to attend our first Open Day on the 28th of February. Some of our Year 5 and 6 students will be leading the tours, which will finish with a presentation from myself. Our community strengthens through your support, so any word of mouth advertising, we would appreciate. We will be sending home a new flyer, and we encourage you to give it to a prospective family.
