From the School Leadership Team

L'équipe de direction de CJC

Dear CJC community,

Our year and three and four swimming program has finished. The students from these classes worked with their GESAC instructors to complete their lessons and participate in this compulsory curriculum area. Thanks to our staff and families for supporting this important program.

Our prep, year one and two classes commence their swimming programs this week.

Book Week was a huge success. Loads of activities were held in our classrooms last week. Thank you to all the families, students and staff who were so involved in our parade on Wednesday morning. Some amazing costumes were created. Such a fun event. See further in this newsletter for some photographs.

The Annual Book Fair at CJC has been extended to include French books as well.

  • Lamont Book Fair will be here from Monday 26th to Tuesday 3rd.
  • Intext Book Fair will be here on Tuesday 27th and Friday 30th.

Opening times for families • Monday 26 August to Tuesday 3 September from 3.30 to 4.15pm  - Full details within this newsletter.

The year 1 cohort visited the Melbourne Zoo on Friday, to learn about animals, habitats and life cycles. We had the most wonderful day exploring all the zoo has to offer!

Important Dates:

  • District Athletics – Friday 6th September at Duncan Mackinnon Reserve. Details on compass for selected students and their families.
  • Year 3 and 4 camp dates - Wednesday 4th of September to Friday 6th September.
  • Term 3 finishes on 20th September at 2.30pm. Please note the earlier finish time and access the services of TeamKids (after school care) if you need.

Our annual Grandparents Day was another big success with many of our special people able to attend school and visit the classes. Having grandparents around the school ensures we maintain a strong community connection with them and allows them to see their precious grandchildren at school and learning. We held an information session around literacy learning and our phonics approach in the junior school. A cup of tea and a biscuit finished off another great program offered by the school.

Safety around our school has been a focus for my work this week. This is part of a bigger ongoing series of related issues around the school.

  • Parking appropriately and picking up or dropping off students legally.
  • Arriving at school on time and picking up children so we have no unattended students at the end of the school day.
  • Reporting any suspicious activity or presence in and around the streets surrounding the school.

This week we have been managing the report of a person alongside the school on the morning of the book week parade. Parents were quick to act and with the support of the local police this issue has been managed and we will continue to work with the DET and local agencies to ensure the safety of our community.

We all have a responsibility in this space.

On a celebratory note we have a former student competing in the World Athletics Championships. William Wong, a CJC alumni, has been selected to represent Australia at the World Athletics Under 20 Championship this week in Lima, Peru.

William will compete in the 110m hurdles. He is 18 years old and already the current Australian Under 20 hurdles champion.

Here are some photos of him back then and now.
