Book Week
Book Week is always a big event in the Uni High calendar and this year was no exception! During Week 6 (19-23 August), staff and students alike dressed up and participated in a range of events to celebrate books, reading and our fantastic school library, building connection and community together and rejoicing our school wide reading culture.
Highlights of the week included visits from UHS alumnus and author Murray Middleton, and author Ailsa Wilde, Poem in your Pocket Day, The Book Week Super Quiz, a library Book-Tasting event, poetry recitals, a roving poet, and our annual Book Week costume parade!
Book Week also provides an important opportunity to reflect on the importance and value of access to books and reading, the institutions that provide this access, as well as the barriers that some young people face for access to literature. Through Uni High’s Book Week initiatives, such as the library book sale and our online fundraiser, the UHS community raised over $600 for The Indigenous Literacy Foundation (ILF) to provide books and learning resources to Indigenous children living in remote communities across Australia.
Our online fundraiser remains active and any additional contributions to this cause are greatly appreciated. Please follow this link for details: https://fundraising.ilf.org.au/theuniversityhighschool
