Term 3 is flying by and we have made it to the halfway point! Well done to all Year 9 students for making the most of this term!
Class Spotlight: Wood
This week we are sharing what students in Year 9 wood have learnt so far this term!
This semester in woodwork we have learnt some new joining techniques and processes to achieve nice woodwork pieces. I chose to make a chopping board using those techniques. I first started off by getting two pieces of timber cut for me, then using the biscuit joiner to create slots into the pieces of timber to allow me to use biscuit joining pieces and glue to join them together to make one big piece. I used a round shaped tin to mark out rounded edges, then using a coping I cut them, sanded them off using the electric sander to smooth the edges. I then printed out pictures of designs and fonts I liked and traced these onto my wood. After tracing these, I burned the print into the wood. The last step was to seal the timber with an Oil to prevent moisture entering the timber.
