ALTERNATE PROGRAMS NEWSLETTER 22 AUGUST 2024

We are now less than four weeks away from the end of Term 3, one of the busiest terms we've all experienced—teachers and students alike. I want to extend my thanks to the staff, parents, and students who have put in such great time and effort this term.

For students aiming to complete their Certificate this year, now is the time to focus on finishing your work and submitting it. Teachers are currently busy compiling and reviewing assignments to ensure that everyone planning to finish knows exactly what they need to do to complete. Please be on the lookout for any calls or messages in the coming weeks.

As we approach the September break, I encourage you to take care of yourselves and your children, and to reach out if you need any support. If students are feeling stressed as we near the release of results, please don't hesitate to ask for help. Horsham offers a range of services to assist you through various situations, even when schools are closed and regular support is unavailable.

McKenzie Creek

A Snow White Production

Our termly excursion saw our Creekers attend the school production of ‘Snow White and the Seven Dwarves’ as performed by Horsham College students at the Town Hall.

Students attended a special performance for local schools and we were blown away with the talent and confidence of the performers. The ‘Creekers’ were able to laugh, dance and get involved in the show that was a dedicated ‘pantomime’ performance.

A big thank you to Emily ‘Freddy’ Friedrichsen for inviting the McKenzie Creek students to the show. Also congratulations to the entire school production team for yet another successful performance.

Happy Birthday Koby!

Year 8 student Koby was able to celebrate his 14th birthday with the McKenzie Creek crew last Thursday. Koby is a very kind and respectful student who is always looking out for others.

We hope you enjoyed your day!

‘Wear it Purple Day’

Next Friday 30 August, students are encouraged to wear a hint of purple if they would like to support and celebrate diversity in young people from the LGBTIQA+ community.

There will also be a morning tea available on the main campus, for those who will be interested to attend during recess.

Seniors

On Wednesday 7th August students from the Senior Program of Alternative Programs attended a tour of Federation University with a focus on Vocational Education and Training (VET) courses. Students were led by Kim Bolton from Federation University. Students observed Information Technology, Automotive, Electrotechnology, Building and Construction, Plumbing, Engineering, Health, Nursing and Salon Assistant classes as the VET students were completing their practical elements of their courses.

Alternative Program students were given an insight into the requirements of each course and the possible career pathways. Students wishing to study a VET unit as part of their VCE VM or VPC in 2025 will be required to enrol soon. Not only does a VET unit contribute to the certificates it gives students credits to use in further education. Students pictured below are in simulated workplace settings where VET training occurs.
