7A Gold Camp reflection by Xavier Domantay

Camp was delayed due to the fire risk in term one, but we finally went in Term 3.

First, we stopped for fuel where a bird we called “Jerry” swooped at our bus and did tricks. We stopped in Lorne for a quick break and a breath of the salty sea air at the beach. We also stopped at Apollo Bay for fish and chips and a stop at the lolly store and playground.

We finally arrived at Tanybryn which seemed like the middle of nowhere. It was beautiful being surrounded by tree after tree and the view of the moon. When we first got there, we immediately went to the main cabin. There was a sign outside saying, “No trespassers, we are tired of hiding the bodies”, at least they had a sense of humour. There were many couches, a kitchen area and a ping pong table. As far as I could remember, there was always someone using the ping pong table.

Most of the time we had free time, so we went outside, enjoyed the nature and played games. We played board games like Jenga, chess and twister. The cabins were split into two areas the boys and the girls. There was also a massive grass area, where we would play games and find sticks for marshmallow roasting.

We had a quiz night that brought laughter and connection to our class. We also did the night walk looking for glow worms. Sadly, we did not find many. My sleep was a good one, the others had little to none. Lollies were a common sight in many people’s cabins, because none of them had the common sense to hide them.

We left for Forrest but it was too wet so went to Stephenson’s Falls and took a great walk taking in the scenery. We saw Jerry again and finally arrived home.
