In a few weeks our inaugural music festival will take place. Mr Landes and Mrs Yoshida have been working on this all year and we are excited to share it with our community. Most of you will have Wednesday, 18th September already marked in your family diary. We are grateful for your anticipated support of this new school event - students have been learning their songs and are starting to learn their dance moves. Events such as these, promote our wonderful school programs and community. It‘s an amazing opportunity to promote and showcase students’ talents and skills in the field of the Arts. We look forward to welcoming you on the day.
Please be reminded that communications for this event will be scheduled in Compass. Be sure to get your tickets when they are released. Stay tuned.
Our annual year 3 to 6 Athletics Carnival took place in balmy weather at Duncan McKinnon Centre last Wednesday. It was thrilling to see students having a go and being persistent in their events. We were especially proud of those students cheering their peers on and being supportive of all students. Kokaribb House were crowned winners on the day. Thank you to the group of parents who volunteered and supported many of the events. We can’t run events such as this without your support. We really appreciate your contributions. An extra big thank you, to Mr Pollard, who organised the day and ensured it ran smoothly.
The Paris 2024 Paralympic Games will be held from 28 August to 8 September with around 4400 athletes competing in 22 sports. All eyes will be focused on the triathlon where an ex Carnegie Primary School student will be competing. Liam Twomey is remembered by staff who were teaching at CPS in and before 2006. As a student who embodied the Carnegie spirit, he gave everything a go and kept trying even when things were difficult. Due to the time zone differences between Melbourne and Paris his events will take place whilst we are sleeping. Miss Harley has been in touch with Liam and he knows that all the CPS families will be cheering him on.
We are very proud of Liam and wish him all the best for his events in Paris.
The Glen Eira council have notified us that one of our Lollipop people, Russell is unwell. We have sent our best wishes to him as he recovers. He is looking forward to returning to the Koornang Rd crossing shortly.
Yesterday, we celebrated book week with our annual dress up parade, followed by an opportunity for parents and carers to visit classrooms and share their love of good books. Classrooms were buzzing with so many visitors. We hope you enjoyed the opportunity to visit our classrooms and thank you for taking the time out of your day to participate.
Students from prep to year 6 participated in incursions with highly regarded Australian authors as part of book week 2024. Prep to year 2 students heard from Zanni Louise who is a bestselling Australian picture book and fiction author. She also teaches writing to kids and adults. Our Prep teachers dressed up as Errol, a character from one of her books.
Today year 3 to 6 students heard from Anna Ciddor, a local author who writes fantasy genre novels. If you have a child in years 3-6, please ask them about the incursion when they return home from school.
I wish to acknowledge the traditional owners of
the lands on which this is being read and pay my respects to elders past present and emerging. I wish to acknowledge our First Nations people and pay respects to them. I note further that these lands were never ceded and are, and always will be, Aboriginal Lands.
