VOCABULARY

Synthesise: Combining new learnings with our prior knowledge to form conclusions about the text. 

Nonfiction: A text that is real and based on truth. 

Prior Knowledge: The information you already know about a topic. 

ACTIVITIES YOU CAN DO AT HOME TO SUPPORT YOUR CHILD'S LEARNING

Choose a nonfiction book from home that you haven’t read before. Create a table like the one below: 

Before you begin reading, record all of your prior knowledge about the topic in the ‘What I already know...’ column. 

As you read, record your new learnings in the ‘What I know now...’ column. Did your thinking, about the topic, change or stay the same?
