Celebrations of Learning and Community

YEAR 10 FORMAL

Our Year 10 Formal was a night to remember at the Manor on High. The evening was filled with elegance, laughter, and unforgettable memories. Our students looked stunning and enjoyed a night of dancing, delicious food, and great company. The venue was beautifully decorated, creating a magical atmosphere that added to the charm of the night.

The event kicked off with a grand entrance, where students arrived in style, dressed in their finest attire. The Manor on High provided a perfect backdrop for photos, capturing the joy and excitement of the evening. As the night progressed, the dance floor came alive with music and energy, with students showcasing their best dance moves.

The delicious dinner served was a highlight, offering a variety of dishes that catered to all tastes. The evening also featured some fun activities and surprises that kept everyone entertained.

A big thank you to the formal committee, staff, and volunteers who made this event so special. Your efforts ensured that the night was a huge success and left everyone with lasting memories.

NATIONAL DAY AGAINST BULLYING AND VIOLENCE

The Hazel Glen College school community joined the nationwide movement to take a stand against bullying on the “National Day of Action Against Bullying and Violence (NDA).”

The theme for this day was "Everyone Belongs". When we all feel like we belong, bullying struggles to find a place. It's about embracing who we are, respecting everyone's differences and standing up together against unkindness.

Belonging means we all have a role in preventing bullying. We're encouraged to speak up and create a safe place where everyone feels supported and respected, and our voices are heard and valued.

During the week of 12th to 16th August, in iThrive lessons, students were introduced to understanding bullying, key bullying prevention initiatives, and the importance of connections to find workable solutions to prevent bullying.

On Friday, 16th August, Change House ran team-building and kindness activities to embrace belonging, respect differences, and encourage standing up against bullying. Students were encouraged to wear a touch of orange on the day and participate in the different activities running during lunchtime. Students could also purchase anti-bullying wristbands for $2 on the day.

Together, we fought bullying and made our school a safe place where everyone belongs.

YEAR 6 MELBOURNE MUSEUM EXCURSION

On Tuesday 13th and Thursday 15th August students in Year 6 attended the Melbourne Museum to support their studies in both English and Humanities. Students had the opportunity to explore the many exhibits at the museum, including Dynamic Earth, Melbourne Story, Bugs Alive, Dinosaur Walk and the Forest Gallery. Students completed tasks based on the history of Melbourne, gaining an appreciation for the diversity and development of our city. Students will use this information to support their learning in the classroom in the coming weeks. A massive thanks to all the staff who supported this excursion across the two days.

SCIENCE WEEK

Celebrating Science Week at Hazel Glen College

Science Week was a fantastic celebration of curiosity and discovery at Hazel Glen College! Throughout the week, students participated in a variety of engaging lunchtime activities that highlighted the theme of ‘Species Survival.’

Students had a blast with the ‘Whale Snot Practical,’ where they learned about marine biology in a fun and interactive way. The ‘Clippy Island Natural Selection Game’ was another hit, allowing students to explore the principles of natural selection through a creative and hands-on approach. To top it off, we enjoyed a special viewing of the movie Ice Age.

Our wonderful science department also ran a daily Science quiz, featuring questions crafted by our very own Year 9 Underwater World students. Their hard work and enthusiasm made the quiz a highlight of the week, sparking friendly competition and a deeper appreciation for science.

Thank you to everyone who participated and made Science Week a memorable and educational experience!

BOOK WEEK - READING IS MAGIC!

This week as a College, we celebrated Book Week. The theme for 2024 was 'Reading is Magic'. In the Secondary Years, students participated in various activities run at lunchtime in the library. Some of the Book Week activities included creating bookmarks, word finds, the Shortlisted Book Connections Quiz, Magic-themed mindfulness colouring and a Scavenger Hunt today.

On Monday, students who attend the LEC visited the Preps to participate in 'Buddy Reading'. It was a wonderful experience for our older students who were able to read and share many stories with the curious minds of 5 year old! On Wednesday, students and staff dressed up to celebrate.

Thank you to Ms. Carpenter, Ms. Finnan and the House Leaders who helped coordinate the activities.
