Head of Secondary Years' Report

Dear Parents, Carers and Friends of Hazel Glen College,

What an action packed fortnight we have had since the last newsletter.

Last week was Science Week, and our students and staff had the opportunity to participate in a range of activities to celebrate. The science team ran a range of lunchtime activities including games, pracs and movies that were available to all Secondary Years students. You will find more details about Science Week in the 'Celebrations of Learning and Community' section of this newsletter.

This week was Book Week, and the theme was Reading is Magic. Students have had the opportunity to participate in activities running in the Secondary Years Library at lunch time every day.  Staff and students across Secondary Years also participated in the dress up day on Wednesday 21st August. It was wonderful to see so many of our Secondary Years students get involved in dressing up.

On the 16th of August, we acknowledged the National Day against Bullying and Violence.

Students and staff were encouraged to wear a splash of orange to show support for NDABV, and there were activities run in Secondary Years at lunchtime. Some activities included the Buddy Bench for students to make new friends, "good deed" station, Caring Chain to stop bullying and lawn games. There were also lessons incorporated into iThrive in Years 6 to 12 to educate students about the different types of bullying, the effects of bullying, and what we can do to stop bullying.

On Friday the 16th of August, the Year 10 students enjoyed their formal at Manor on High. It was a wonderful night of celebration. Our students were all dressed to impress and had a wonderful night.

I look forward to seeing many of you at the Father's Day Breakfast on Tuesday 27th August, from 7:15AM to 8:15AM in our Furze Fitness Centre (Gym) and at the College Production ext week.

Our College Production opens next Thursday! Book your tickets to see Mary Poppins Jr. now! Tickets are selling fast! Click here to book tickets!
