Prep Guy
We absolutely loved having our Mums and special people come in to our room for some papering, morning tea and craft activities. We hope you were spoilt on Mother's Day!
We have been very busy over the past few weeks learning new things everyday. We have shown huge amounts of resilience working our way through assessment tasks ready for reports.
During the past few weeks we have continued our learning of non-fiction texts and how to find the information we are looking for, using the contents page, index page, photos and captions. On Monday 20th students learned a lot about World Bee day and why bees are so important to the world. They even tried some honey from my hive.
In writing, we have been learning how to write an information report with what we learned from non-fiction texts. Everyone did a brilliant job with their information reports about Bower Birds after learning about these curious birds on Wednesday which was simultaneous story time with Blowerbirds Blue.
In Maths we have continued our learning around addition, learning to add up with counters, ten frames, number lines, drawing pictures and counting on.
We loved learning about first aid with all students learning what to do in an emergency.
Well done everyone for trying so hard with your Athletics Sport's tasks. Everyone showed amazing resilience not giving up.
Remember my classroom door is always open to you. Please come in and have a chat about your child or our learning at any time.
Students of the week
Well done to Cooper, Xavier and Ryker who were voted in by their peers to be our Stars of The Week over the past three weeks. Cooper was chosen by his classmates because they said he was respectful, looking after students who were hurt. Xavier was chosen because he shows a great amount of responsibility, doing the right thing and he is trustworthy. Ryker was voted in for concentrating and completing all his learning activities, showing responsibility for his learning. Well done Cooper, Xavier and Ryker; we are so proud of you.
Gardening Cooking Club
Oh dear! The chickens got into the vegie garden and ate all the seedlings we planted two weeks ago, so we cooked apple and pear puffs using fruit from Breakfast Club. Yummy, was what we all heard!! An AMAZING gold token to Luke N and Cameron J who helped me catch the chickens and roosters on Tuesday to clip their flight wings. Hopefully we don't have any more 'runaway' or 'fly away' chickens!
A MASSIVE THANK YOU to Parents and Friends who donated some money to buy small shovels, plants such as blueberries and raspberries for the vegie garden plaus items for our cooking pantry such as puff pastry, cooking utensils, flour, yeast and sugar. Parents and Friends work so hard so that your children benefit.
Over the past three weeks we have had a very busy learning new things everyday! In reading we have been continuing to learn about digraphs and the sounds they make, e.g. the /ee/, /oo/, /ie/ and /ar/ letter sounds. When learning about these letter sounds, they have been focusing on attempting to spell words that contain these sounds. As part of our reading response lessons, students have been developing questions while reading, recording how I thoughts change while reading and the main idea of non-fiction texts.
In Writing, We have been building our stamina in writing. Students have been a given a series of images to plan and draft a narrative. It has been amazing to see how much the students have grown in their story writing! Students have also begun their information report unit where they have begun to plan and write a report on Blue-Tongued lizards.
In Maths, we have continued to focus on the areas of Addition, Subtraction and Data. When adding numbers, students have explored counting on from the bigger number and partitioning by adding the Tens, then the Ones. Students have also been focusing on developing a question to collect data and representing this in the form of a graph.
This week we have also learnt about World Bee Day and how bees play a crucial role in our ecosystem. Students enjoyed making a bee and recording their own personal connections to this event.
Student Achievers:
Congratulations to Bell and Zane for being our student achievers! I am so proud of both of you and how much you have shown our school values of Respect, Resilience and Responsibility.
Curriculum
We have had a very busy three weeks in our wonderful classroom. We have been busy doing mid-year assessments and learning about bees for World Bee Day and turtles for World Turtle Day. Students have also spent assessment time revising place value and continuing to explore addition and subtraction in maths. In literacy, we have revised narrative writing and finalised our fiction unit exploration. We are so excited to move onto the non-fiction unit next week.
Student Achievers
Congratulations to our student achievers for the last few weeks... During week 4 Charlotte was our student achiever and during week 5 Miheli was our student achiever. I am so proud of all of you!
Our classroom
This week we learnt about and celebrated World Bee Day and World Turtle Day. We spent time learning about Mother's Day the week prior to Mother's Day. We learnt why we celebrate it and what it means to have a special person in our lives. Students were encouraged to make their mother's a card, bookmark or drawing/ colouring. This week we cerebrated Athletics Day. I was fortunate to have the 8-year-od group which meant I got to spend the day with most of my grade. I also ensured to check in with my students who were in different age groups. I am so incredibly proud of each and every one of my students. All of your wonderful children participated in athletics day and the activities. We worked hard to gain points for our houses and always had a go, even if we felt a bit nervous.
A note from Miss Stoll
Hello parents and families,
I would like to wish all of our mothers and special people a wonderful Mother's Day. I hope you had an incredible day with your families celebrating how special you are.
If you would like to discuss your child's learning or development at any time, please email the school to get a hold of me, or alternatively come see me at drop off or pick up to organise a time for a future meeting. I will be contacting parents over the coming weeks to organise Student Support Group meetings or to discuss any report grades or comments if necessary prior to reports being sent out later this term. If you have any questions or concerns then you are kindly and warmly invited to discuss these with me at a time that suits us both.
Thank-you, Kate Stoll.
