School Fundraiser for Nazia

VSC held a student fundraiser to support Nazia on Friday the 17th of May. Nazia is a Year 11 student at VSC and is an integral part of the Afghan Women’s Soccer Team.

When the Taliban took over Afghanistan, Nazia was evacuated to Australia with her teammates. Whilst maintaining a rigorous soccer training program, Nazia has been living independently in Melbourne and working extremely hard to bring her sisters and brother to Australia and they have just been granted refugee visas.

As the proposer of the visas, Nazia was responsible for the cost of the flights to Australia and other additional costs. The fundraiser consisted of students dressing up as their favourite sporting athlete, Mr Mizzi’s famous sausage sizzle, and in honour of the Afghan Women’s Soccer team, a soccer match between female students and staff.

A huge crowd watching this match were also treated to some brilliant skills from Nazia and two of her current teammates in Bahara and Captain Fatima. It was an incredible day which displayed the power of strong community action and support at VSC as $2570.05 was raised for Nazia.

This overwhelming support and generosity has assisted in bringing Nazia’s sisters to Australia on Tuesday the 21st of May and the Gofundme page funds will continue to provide assistance for their journey ahead.
