Equal groups:

Counting by grouping a collection into equal groups. Skip counting. 

For example:

We have 8 hot dogs, we can count them by making equal groups.

We have 4 equal groups of hot dogs.

We have 2 hot dogs in each group.

Children can count their collection of pencils by sorting into equal groups of 2s and 5s.
