VOCABULARY

Procedural text:  

 

A text that provides instructions on how to do a task. 

 

For example: How to make a jam sandwich. 

  1. Grab the ingredients I need. Bread, butter, jam and a knife. 
  2. Pull out two pieces of bread. 
  3. Using the knife, I butter two pieces of bread. 
  4. I use the knife to spread jam on my buttered bread. 
  5. I put the two pieces of bread together. 

ACTIVITIES YOU CAN DO AT HOME TO SUPPORT YOUR CHILD'S LEARNING

Children can practise procedural writing by writing instructions on how they get ready for school in the morning. 

An alternative activity could be children joining their family members in helping cook dinner and writing instructions on what they did.
