Arts students learn from the experts
Arts students have had multiple opportunities to learn from professionals in various fields in recent weeks.
On Friday 10 May, the String Orchestra travelled to the Capital Theatre to participate in a workshop with members of the Australian Chamber Orchestra. Led by violinist Aiko Goto, Girton students combined with students from Castlemaine Secondary College to form a large string ensemble. They were inspired by Aiko’s passion for music-making and her boundless energy. By the end of the afternoon, the sound made by the ensemble was impressive and students walked away from the session with renewed enthusiasm.
Throughout Weeks 4 and 5 of Term 2, our Year 9 and 10 Visual Art students have had the chance to work with visiting artist Danny Butterworth as they produce a mural artwork to be hung in the school. Danny has guided the students through the creative process, from planning to realisation. The finished artwork will be on display at the Girton Grammar School Art Show in Term 3.
Finally, students from our cast of The Little Mermaid have been training with Christian Schooneveldt-Reid and Rachel Hunt from Circus Oz in aerial acrobatics ahead of the production. The cast members began their training using scaffolding set up in the Black Box Theatre and will next travel to Melbourne to train at Circus Oz. The Little Mermaid will run from 19 to 21 June at the Ulumbarra Theatre, with tickets now available for purchaseat Bendigo Venues & Events. To learn more about the production, see the Senior School Production update.
The opportunities for our students to experience and excel in the arts have been many and varied this term and we are grateful to all of the professionals who have been involved for sharing their expertise and skills.
