Integrity in Relationships

Creating and maintaining positive and respectful relationships is essential in helping shape a child’s response to the world around them. For us in a Christian school, learning about and maintaining positive and respectful relationships is what we are called to do. In helping foster such relationships, research shows that children develop their ability to learn how to think, understand the world around them, communicate with each other, behave in a positive manner, express emotions appropriately and develop social skills.

As parents, guardians, teachers and a myriad of other influencers in your child’s life, the way that we engage with, and respond to circumstances and others, goes a long way in helping shape the way that your child learns to respond.

Let us remember that relationships that we develop and are called to be a part of should not be viewed as a burden when they become difficult, but rather they are a gift from the Lord who calls us to be a part of them. This is key to creating positive and collaborative partnerships!

Mambourin PYP Coffee Morning with Parents

Last week we had the joy of hosting our Mambourin parents for a PYP information morning. For this session, we focused on exploring the different ways families can support learning at home. This involved recognising the importance of engagement and how learners display engagement. We all agreed that when a learner (or even ourselves) is engaged the learning is more powerful. We also discussed how executive functioning skills for everyday living (getting dressed, playing, cleaning up, planning an idea, packing schoolbags) support a child’s academic growth. Parents learned more about the importance of conversations with their children, reading daily and how to promote writing in an everyday context. We explored fun ways to engage as a family in developing Math's skills using dice, cards and counters, games and as a family using Math’s skills in daily life. It was a delight to spend time with our families and share questions and concerns. We look forward to the next opportunity to learn together!
