Kindergarten - The Very Hungry Caterpillar
Kindergarten have been reading, 'The Very Hungry Caterpillar'. The caterpillar visited Kindy recently with a letter, wanting to know about their favourite food. Students have been working hard to write simple sentences using capital letters, finger spaces and full stops. At the end of their writing, they all enjoyed a cupcake!
Year 1 shares their writing with Year 5
Throughout Term 1, Year 1 students worked very hard at writing their own short stories, following a narrative structure about their very own crazy character. Some of these characters included The Kind Cupcake, The Evil Nugget and The Cute Pen. On the last day of Term 1, Year 1 shared their narratives with a Year 5 buddy. They were so excited to share their funny stories and show Year 5 their amazing writing.
Year 4 Dubbo Exursion
On the first day of their Dubbo excursion, students stepped back in time at the Old Dubbo Gaol, exploring what life was like for prisoners in the 1800s. They walked through old prison cells and learned about various harrowing escape attempts. Later that evening, they visited the Dubbo Observatory, where they were fortunate to view various stars and planets in our Milky Way, including Mars, which is only visible every two years.
Day two took students underground at the Wellington Caves, where they explored ancient rock formations, learned about megafauna, and even had the opportunity to dig for their own fossils and relics. That afternoon, students also had the pleasure of visiting the Royal Flying Doctor Service Education Centre, where they were captivated by stories of patient survival. Students left inspired by the critical role the service plays in supporting health care across rural Australia. The exhibition allowed students to look inside various aircrafts and learn about the fascinating history of the service.
That evening the fun continued with an evening of ten pin bowling and a much anticipated Thursday night pizza party. On the final day, students visited Taronga Western Plains Zoo in Dubbo, where they enjoyed an early morning walk through the zoo. They were excited to learn about Australian native animals as well as exotic and endangered species from around the world, such as giraffes, black rhinos, meerkats and the impressive hippo exhibit. All students returned home buzzing with excitement, armed with souvenirs and many fond memories. A big thank you to Mrs Lenton, Miss Arthur, Mr O’Donnell and Mrs O’Neil for organising and supporting us on such a great excursion.
