Term 1 Overview
Dear Students and Families,
It is with great pride and happiness that I congratulate our Senior School community for a completing a successful term at Bemin Secondary College.
At the Senior Campus, one of our core focuses is instilling in our students the importance of setting high expectations for themselves and embodying our College values of Respect, Excellence, Community, and Innovation. This term, we've seen these values come to life in countless ways, shaping the foundation of our school culture.
On the 30th of January we welcomed our new year 10 students who engaged in a two-day transition program. During this program students were involved in classes which enabled them to get to know their new peers and teachers as they settled into their new learning spaces. Students also learned about the Bemin Secondary College culture which they will continue to be a part of and grow further as they journey through their final years of school here.
On the 31st of January we also welcomed back our students from 2024 who are part of the inaugural cohort at Bemin SC and are completing the VCE program. Students were welcomed by their Year 11 leadership team and they learned of the expectations and hurdles of the VCE and very swiftly began learning in new VCE subjects. Finally on the 3rd of February, we welcomed back our 2024 students who are undertaking the VCE-VM program. Students have since learned of the independence required to ensure they keep up with the rigours of the VCE-VM program, that they are able to meet the requirements of their external VET programs whilst also continuing to pursue industry experience in relation to their VET subjects for their structured workplace learning programs.
The beginning of the 2025 school year along with the introduction of many new students and staff saw the opening our of brand-new school canteen. Students have enjoyed a selection of food and drink choices and have been excellent in showing respect for our college canteen processes. Events at our Senior Campus included a number of assemblies celebrating the welcoming of new students, harmony week and student excellence in demonstrating the College values. Students also enjoyed a week of festivities during week 8 to celebrate Harmony week and we also welcomed special guests including Sarah Connolly our local MP to speak to our students during International Women's Day.
During this term our year 10 and 11 students also applied and interviewed for student leadership positions. Along with our successful candidates for year 11 and 10 captain, vice-captain and SLC, I would like to congratulate all students who demonstrated the courage, commitment and desire to positively grow and shape our school for our current and future students.
As we look ahead to the coming term, we're excited to see what new opportunities and achievements we as a college community can aspire to reach. Together, we will continue to build an inclusive, respectful, aspiring and caring college community where every college member has the opportunity to flourish.

Assistant Principal-Senior School
Bemin Secondary College recently celebrated Harmony Week from Monday, March 17th to Friday, March 21st. It was a week packed with fun activities to show our appreciation for the amazing cultural diversity in our school community.
Students took part in various cultural activities throughout the week, with a highlight on Thursday, March 20th, when they wore their traditional clothes and performed during a whole-school assembly, proudly showcasing their backgrounds.
Mrs. Elly Ho and Mrs. Sabrina Baker led the planning committee with a team of staff and students. A big thank you to all, as they put in so much time and effort organising the activities, decorating and coordinating the performances.
It was fantastic to see everyone at Bemin proudly representing their cultures and countries. We also want to express our gratitude to all the parents for supporting their children in taking part in this special event.

Year 10 Students’ Successful Transition
We are pleased to share that our Year 10 students have made a seamless transition into senior secondary school this term, demonstrating impressive adaptability and commitment to their studies. Over the past few months, we have seen remarkable growth in our students' academic and personal development as they settle into a new school and new routines.
From the very start, Year 10 students have shown a clear dedication to academic rigor. They have embraced new challenges and responsibilities with enthusiasm, approaching their studies with a focus and determination that reflects their readiness for the increased demands of senior secondary education. Teachers have observed an eagerness to engage with more complex concepts, ask insightful questions, and take ownership of their learning.
In addition to their academic progress, Year 10 students have been actively involved in creating a positive and collaborative learning atmosphere. They are already developing key skills in time management, critical thinking, and self-motivation—skills that will serve them well as they continue their educational journey. The students have embraced the expectations of senior school with enthusiasm and commitment, demonstrating their readiness to take on more responsibility in their learning. They have shown excellent focus in establishing strong "ready to learn" routines, both in the classroom and outside of it. This includes consistent effort in staying organized, managing their time effectively, and actively participating in class discussions and activities.
Staff have worked closely with all students to provide the necessary support and guidance, helping them navigate this significant change with confidence. The strong foundation that has been built this year will serve our students well as they continue their academic journey.
As a school we look forward to seeing even more success and progress as the year continues!
The Year 10 Team
Year 10 student reflections:
I really like the opportunities that we get and the amount of help the school gives us to learn and to aim for our goals. I also like the teachers who help with careers because they can help you get a job and help you get a job and a higher ATAR score.
I enjoy our health and PE teacher Ms Cusack. She’s funny and good at managing our class. Transitioning to Bemin was a slow but fun process.
The transition to Bemin was smooth, although finding your classes is still hard. Trying to figure out what building you’re in takes a long time but I would say Bemin Secondary College is excellent, especially my favourite teacher Miss Olga who made this first term amazing!
Moving from my old school to Bemin Secondary was a big change. It was difficult at first because I had to make new friends and meet new people, however,I met some very welcoming people. This helped me feel more comfortable and enjoy my time at school. The teachers and learning support were very passionate about teaching and helping students from different schools. Even though coming to Bemin was a big change, the number of opportunities that were given to students such as different electives, interschool sports and upcoming events like formal and athletics helped us feel more engaged and enjoy our high school life.
For me, the start of Year 10 has been filled with excitement and challenges, as I have had to adjust to the new environment I am now in and the expectations the school follows. There have been some challenges I have faced so far this term. For example, getting to class on time due to how open and spacious the school is, as well as the difficulty of adjusting to the change in schoolwork. One of the classes I have enjoyed so far is Maths because I understand the concepts easily, and if I am in doubt, my teacher corrects me and helps me improve my work. An event I have enjoyed so far is Culture Day. It showcased the cultural diversity throughout the school, and we got to observe different cultural backgrounds and how students and teachers show appreciation for their heritage. Compared to my previous school, Bemin is different in many ways. One of the main differences is that my old school mainly focused on the primary school, as it was a P–9. This made it difficult for the majority of high school students, as the school prioritised the junior students over the senior students. Although the change from Year 9 to Year 10 was overwhelming at first, I have begun to feel more comfortable and used to the change in environment.

Congratulations to our VCE and VCE VM students on the completion of Term 1 of their two year qualification. We are excited to be delivering VCE and VCE VM to our foundation Senior Campus students.
We are proud of how our students have risen to the challenge of VCE studies, particularly in terms of academic rigour. Students have actively engaged in their learning, exploring key knowledge and skills, supported by the College’s dedicated teaching and learning team.
In amongst their studies, students have enjoyed the many benefits of what our new College has to offer including the canteen, other facilities and various events led by our students.
Across the coming year, Year 11 students will work with a number of guest speakers and leaders, and participate in various excursions and activities, as they continue to prepare for their future pathways and the unique opportunities they create for themselves.

Student Spotlight
During my time here at Bemin, I have had the opportunity to help organise Harmony Week and now have the pleasure of being a Student Leader. Students at Bemin have been able to create strong bonds with peers and teachers, who have shown kindness to our community as a whole.
Since last year, I have been able to think about my future and chase my life goals. I would like to thank all my peers and teachers for believing in me, and encouraging me to achieve my dreams.
Never forget to follow what your heart desires.

Assessment in VCE and VCE VM
Throughout last year, and this term, students have built their understanding of the assessment processes established by the Victorian Curriculum and Assessment Authority (VCAA).
All school assessed coursework and tasks across Units 1 to 4 contribute towards the achievement of the VCE qualification. As a result, all assessments are compulsory and must be completed.

My name is Hermila Abuye and it is an honour to have been presented this role to represent our school.
I am committed to making this year one of the best and an opportunity for growth and success for us all. I initially was inspired to become a school captain because I wanted to grow as a person and take as many opportunities given to me this year but through the process I have realised how important change is for us individuals and would like to see a change in this environment for the better.
As one of your school captains, I will strive to be a voice for your student body, ensuring that everyone feels heard, supported and acknowledged. Helping us all reach our full potential whether it's through leadership, school events or simply being there for my peers, I am dedicated to fostering a positive and inclusive environment.
As a community we can make this year unforgettable, a year with many achievements, new experiences and strong friendships. If you ever have ideas or questions feel free to approach me so we can build the school of our dreams.
Hi, my name is Helice and I am one of your year 11 2025 school captains.
I am greatly honoured to be chosen for this role. I have been able to contribute to events at our school over the past year and this role has given me a chance to continue showing my leadership and pride for our school.
I will not only do my absolute best to represent this school everyday, but my main goal is to leave a positive impact on our school and contribute wherever I can whether that's listening to your ideas, or creating new clubs for our school, no matter how big or small the idea is, I want to make a difference.
Not only do I get to work with fellow teachers and student leaders but with everyone, creating a school environment where everyone feels included and valued. Your voice is as important as mine and that's why we can work together to strive at this school.
I’m truly excited for this role as school captain and thank you again for this incredible opportunity.
