Term 1 Overview
I am excited to introduce and congratulate our newly appointed student leaders for Junior School. With over 75 students applying, there was a lot of competition, and it was great to see so many individuals eager to step up and contribute to our school community.
These students have stepped up with enthusiasm, a genuine desire to make a difference, and a strong sense of responsibility toward their peers.
Please welcome and congratulate our 2025 Student Leaders:

As they take on their new roles, we look forward to supporting them, hearing their ideas, and working together to create a positive and inclusive school environment.
Congratulations once again to our new student leaders—we are excited for the year ahead and to see you grow and be the voice for the Junior Campus student body.
Elyshia Sheldon
Junior School Assistant Principal
As the Campus Captains for 2025 we would like to introduce ourselves, our goals and values.
I am glad to be the Campus Captain for Junior School again. My name is Ishmay Jewana, and this year I am in 8C. All my life I have been faced with many hurdles, and I have been willing to overcome everything I've been faced with. In fact, that is what my middle name Jiteshee means; someone who can overcome all challenges in life.
I want all the students at Bemin Secondary College to be able to do the same in not fearing their challenges and using the school values to guide them through. To do that, I would like to bring the community together where we can all support and be there for each other. I will continue to promote and live our school values: the centre of all the goals we are aiming to achieve. This year, I hope to be able to support the members in my school community to try to bring out their best.
My name is Munazza Ajaz, I am in 8F, I am excited to have this opportunity to become a Campus Captain. I am someone that enjoys trying new things and giving things a go even if they seem too hard or too difficult. I participate in karate and swimming outside of school which helps me to reset and learn new lifelong skills. At school I enjoy learning new things in each subject, challenging myself and participating in competitions which help me to push myself to do my best. When I grow up, I want to become a doctor and all the skills I learn at school inspire me to achieve my best efforts to achieve this goal. I am looking forward to working together with the student leaders and the school community to organise many new activities based on each individual's interests and passions.
We are looking forward to making the betterment of our school by shaping the school community and highlighting the individual and group efforts of students here at Bemin Secondary College. As the Campus Captains for 2025 our goals are to ensure that all students get to feel a sense of belonging with the school and its community through different activities and events that we will organise during the school year alongside the student leadership team. We want to embrace each individual's strengths, passions and love for learning. As the representatives for the student body, we want to encourage all students to do their best and try new things. We are excited to work with the student leaders and the rest of our school to see our goals come to life.

On March 5th we had our Welcome BBQ for Year 7 students and their families. It was great to see so many parents and students come together for an evening to get to know each other. This event provided an excellent opportunity for families to connect with each other and engage with the school community. It’s always special to see new faces and foster strong relationships within our school. Thank you to everyone who attended – we look forward to working together to support our students in the first year of their secondary education.

On March 13th, select students had the exciting opportunity to attend the Formula 1 Grand Prix. We had an incredible time watching the cars race and exploring the vibrant atmosphere of the event. Along the way, we received free sunscreen and participated in fun craft activities. Some students enjoyed a ride on the ferris wheel, taking in stunning views of the event.
A memorable highlight was recycling empty bottles to get a complimentary Coke, adding a unique twist to our experience. We gained valuable insights into how F1 cars work, learned about their maintenance, and engaged in car-themed games. The event was innovative, showcasing the technology behind Formula 1 racing. Overall, it was a fantastic experience, and everyone left with unforgettable memories and a deeper understanding of the world of motorsport!

Wyndham Tech School is a STEM centre dedicated to connecting students with their future careers, and our Year 7’s had the incredible opportunity to visit! The excursion was an exciting, hands-on experience where we explored technology and creativity. We also created podcasts, developed AI-powered stories for and crafted unique AI-generated storylines. One of the highlights was meeting Pepper, a semi-humanoid robot, and Spot, a robot dog from Boston Dynamics, which was amazing! The Future of Work program introduced us to fields like AI, podcasting, and gameplay, offering valuable insights into technology careers. We collaborated with peers, tackled challenges in teams, and enhanced our problem-solving skills. The day was a fun and educational mix of interactive lessons and cutting-edge tech, leaving us motivated to think about the future of work and the endless possibilities ahead in technology. It was a memorable experience that inspired creativity and a deeper understanding of digital future.

Over the last few weeks, we had our first whole school, teacher vs. student volleyball event. This was a great success. There was a heating performance from all teams.
Before the finals we found out who the finalists were by playing 4 games that were played amongst the year 7's and the year 8s separately.
"The tension in my team was unbearable as we were the second team to play the match and if we didn't win, we would be out of the tournament. Unfortunately, we did lose by a few points, but we still played our best and enjoyed the experience. The cheering from our classes kept us going." Ash Turna, 7G Volleyball team
It was a fun experience, for year 7s, 7A/B was the successful team, for year 8's the year 8 volleyball team came away with the win. These two teams then played in the semi-finals.
For the semifinals we had 7A/B vs the Year 8 Volleyball team. It started with the year 7 team behind, but they took action where they then took a leap to the top beating the year 8 team by 1 point. With this confidence they then moved on to the finals versing the teacher team.
The teachers held strong against the year 7A/B team it came down to the final point where the teachers had a victory only winning by one point.
"There was so much teamwork and collaboration with the year 8 Volleyball team, even though we lost we still celebrated together as a year 8 cohort". Ghilian Sunga, Year 8 Volleyball team
The students look forward to beating the teachers in the upcoming teacher vs. student event.

In week eight of this term, across the College, we celebrated Harmony Week. Harmony Week is when we come together to celebrate the diversity and friendship of our College community.
During the week, we engaged in a number of activities that highlighted different aspects of culture and friendship. These included cultural movies at lunchtimes, our usual bell music being changed to songs from a range of different countries, friendship bracelet making, cultural performances and a huge assembly to round out the week.
A number of Year 7 & 8 students were asked what Harmony Week meant to them as Bemin students, from our respect captains. They responded with:
Thank you to all of our students who demonstrated their cultures through traditional dress, dance and music, as well as conversation throughout our Harmony Week celebrations.

Bemin Secondary College is thrilled to be part of the 2025 Victorian State Schools Spectacular, which is a full-scale arena production that showcases the incredible talents of students from government schools across the state. The spectacular will take place at John Cain Arena on September 13th, and our students are already hard at work preparing for the big day! Earlier in the year, our Year 8 students had the opportunity to audition for the cast. After a dance audition, a select number of students were chosen to represent our school. In Week 9, they attended their first rehearsal at Saltwater P-9 College in Point Cook, joining students from other schools in the area to learn the first few dance routines. Our students embraced the challenge and loved every moment of learning their choreography. With three more major rehearsals in the coming months, they will continue to refine their performances before stepping onto the arena stage in September.
We can’t wait to see their hard work pay off, so stay tuned for more updates as we get closer to showtime!
I would like to congratulate our cast (in alphabetical order):

This term, the year seven cohort have began their first year of their secondary education. It has been wonderful to support the year sevens in their first year at Bemin Secondary College and it is very exciting to see that they are growing more and more settled and becoming accustomed to the routines and expectations in secondary school.
The year sevens have been very busy with our Volleyball Tournament, NAPLAN, Future of Work Excursions and PAT Testing.
We are looking forward to see what the rest of the semester holds with more opportunities for the year sevens to showcase their learning.
I would like to wish you a safe and happy holidays and can't wait to hear about them when we return in Term 2.
