AUTISM INCLUSION TEACHER
2026
Hello from the Autism Teacher,
Welcome back to a new school year! I’m Claire McGarvey and I’m excited to be the Autism Inclusion Teacher at Hackham East Primary School for 2026.
Kicking off a new school year is always a mix of excitement and nerves for students and parents! There’s so much to look forward to, like meeting new teachers, making friends, and trying out all sorts of activities. While getting started can sometimes feel a bit overwhelming, please know we’re here to help everyone settle in and get off to a great start. I’ve included an article below with tips for making the transition into the new school year as smooth as possible.
I would also like to provide you with some information about the role of the Autism Inclusion Teacher (AIT) in schools. The AIT supports schools by helping teachers better understand autism and use inclusive, evidence-based strategies in the classroom. They work to create supportive learning environments, promote student voice, and share helpful resources and ideas with staff. While they don’t work directly with every child or manage individual plans or funding, their role helps make the school a more welcoming and inclusive place for all students.
Finally, we are inviting families to share their thoughts by completing a short survey. Your feedback helps us understand how we can support our students and families. All responses are confidential and will be used to help with future planning and programs. If you have any questions or would like support completing the survey, please don’t hesitate to contact me via the front office.
Please feel free to reach out if you have any questions, would like to chat, or need support—I’m always happy to help.
