Young Leaders Program

This term, our Grade 5 students have been preparing to step into leadership roles as next year’s school leaders through our Public Leadership Program. The program focuses on developing the key building blocks of leadership, including presentation skills, organisation, responsibility and teamwork.

As their final project, students worked in groups to plan and run a lunchtime club of their own. They were challenged to identify ways to improve student engagement during lunchtime and bring their ideas to life. Clubs included creative and active initiatives such as an art competition, sandpit building competition and a chalkboard drawing competition.

Students took full ownership of their projects by organising when, where and how their events would run. They promoted their clubs by presenting to different classes and making announcements over the loudspeaker. On the day, students were responsible for running the events, supporting participants and ensuring everything ran smoothly.

The result was outstanding student engagement, with many students eagerly participating in the lunchtime activities. This authentic leadership experience allowed our Grade 5 students to demonstrate initiative, confidence and responsibility, while making a positive contribution to our school community. We are incredibly proud of the leadership skills they have shown as they prepare for future leadership opportunities.
