RE Learning in 3/4JH

In 3/4 JH we have been learning about forgivness and healing. Students have been exploring the story of Zacchaeus (Luke 19:1–10) and reflecting on the powerful themes of forgiveness, inclusion and transformation. Using the Three Worlds of the Text, students considered the world behind the story, the events within the text, and how Jesus’ message connects to our lives today.

Through discussion, drama and reflection, students examined how Jesus welcomes Zacchaeus with compassion and offers him a fresh start. They explored how forgiveness can bring healing, restore relationships and help people make positive changes. Students also made connections to our classroom community, identifying ways we can show kindness, empathy and inclusion in our everyday actions.

We developed a better understand of the story by creating a set of freeze frames, depicting 4 different parts of the Gospel.

  • Zacchaeus climbs the tree

  • Jesus stops and calls him

Finally, students were able use promts to make connections about how the story speaks to our world today and decide how they were going to be more like Jesus this week.

Jesus said to his disciples: ‘You are the salt of the earth. But if salt becomes tasteless, what can make it salty again? It is good for nothing, and can only be thrown out to be trampled underfoot by men.

‘You are the light of the world. A city built on a hill-top cannot be hidden. No one lights a lamp to put it under a tub; they put it on the lamp-stand where it shines for everyone in the house. In the same way your light must shine in the sight of men, so that, seeing your good works, they may give the praise to your Father in heaven.’
